Your Favorite Reality Show?

Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:33 pm

Question is pretty self explanatory. What is your favorite Reality Show?
I"d have to say mine is the Real World, and that is pretty much the only Reality Show I watch.

I can't *stand* reality TV.  yuck

... though if "Cops" counts, I'll have to confess to killing a few hours that way when I couldn't sleep...

My argument has always been that what the networks call 'reality' television is far removed from my own definition of reality so as to be insane!! News is reality; living in a camera-ridden house with a bunch of strangers or trying to stomach Paris and Nicole as 'parents' or 'camp counsellors' is NOT.

American Inventor is quite good. I also enjoy watching Super Nanny, Nanny 911, Wife Swap and Trading Spouses because they are funnier than most sitcoms on TV.

Amazing Race. By a country mile. The ignorance of most competitors makes for compelling viewing. Imagine if they opened the race up to us Antipodeans. We would dominate.

Blik op de Weg. It is the first programme in the world to introduce a dashboard camera to a undecover police car. It has been going on for 17 seasons now, and it is still the best.

Unlike most the clones I have seen of this show, both Dutch and international, this show takes the viewers seriously. So a normal explanation of what is going on, with everyday situations. You wont see any car pursuits where 15 police vehicles are going for an idiot in a Fiat. Nor do they usually show carcrashes to make the programme "interesting". However, they do show from time to time the police vehicle responding to an incident. It is quite interesting to see how the police drive when they are in a hurry. Really focussed, but still with extremely good situational awareness or everything going on ahead and besides them.

Blik op de Weg.

Too right. The best programme of its kind on Dutch TV.

I am not much into reality television. However, this summer a friend of ours is appearing in Het Blok, a Dutch reality series running since 2004 on Net 5. The program is based on the Australian series The Block.

The program shows 4 couples who have 77 days to build and model an apartment. The construction happens while the couples hold their regular day jobs, so only evenings and weekends are available to the couples. They are each given a € 30,000 budget with which to buy supplies, such as paint and lighting supplies. Every two weeks, the couples must have one room of their apartment ready for judgement. A jury reviews the rooms that are finished and the winner of each judging get an extra prize (usually extra money).

After 77 days, each apartment is judged as a whole, and the apartments are valuated. The couple who has the apartment that has risen the most in value wins an extra € 50,000 and wins the apartment.

This friend of ours can be quite difficult and is very prone to   . We're expecting a lot of ..erm.. friction and a lot of laughs.

Robert

I'm sadly partial to a little Australian Idol.

At the moment I'm completely hooked on "On The Lot". It's really really good!

How about the new one - "Ice Road Truckers" - or something like that. It's basically the same format as Deadliest Catch, but these truckers carry supplies over the frozen artic to the camps in the far north. Pretty cool for an episode or two, but I don't think it can go on as far as Deadliest Catch.

Right on... I can't wait for Sunday night for this show...

"Cops" is a good 2nd place in my book, and I found myself watching "The Real Houswives of Orange County" for a while...

I'm pretty much in that boat. I saw the second half of the first season of it, and became nearly obsessed. I watched all of Australia and Africa, and I still think those first three seasons were the best. A few people I know applied for the latest edition, China.

checkmark  I watch it most Saturday evenings if I end up moping around the house. Somehow watching these relatively trashy people try to hide their crack from the police is interesting.
