The Best View Of Your City

Fri Jun 29, 2007 2:02 pm

Where is the best view where you live? Where would you take an out-of-towner for a good view? Let's see your views!

In Nagoya's case, Toyota recently opened it's new headquarters with a major observation deck on the 43rd floor with fantastic views:

The city with the tower in the very background of this shot is Gifu, a nearby prefectural capital of over 400,000 but it has more or less been a suburb since WWII

I think this view of Tucson, taken by Tom in NO from A Mountain is the best.

It has downtown in the foreground, the University of Arizona behind, and the Catalina Mountains in the background.

LOL! Bray is too small to have any tall buildings, but there is a great view from the 300m Bray Head at the south end of the town:

This view of downtown from Vulcan Park is by far the most popular view of Birmingham.

The view from where I-20/59 and Highway 280/31 join is better, but they're elevated highways and there's no place to pull over and snap a photo.  Sad

The Three Towers (St Nicolas church, Belfry & St Bavo cathedral) figure prominently in most Ghent pictures...

My favorite view from the Saint Michaels slope (Sint Michielshelling)...

And probably the best view over the city you get from the top floor of the university library, also called the Booktower...

Not often, it has to be said! That was taken two weeks ago when we had a scorcher of a week. Since then it's been miserable.

I don't have that view, unfortunately. I live at the far end of the town, about .5 of a centimetre directly inland from the harbour at the far end of the beach.

Here's a view from the opposite direction. The pic earlier was taken from the top of the Head.

Since the water tower has been closed since the 2004 or 2005 hurricane season (I think it was Frances in 2004, but it may have been another storm), and since we lack other tall buildings that are publicly accessible, I'd recommend a sightseeing tour with Paradise Island Helicopters:

The best views of my city are from Waterloo Bridge or the River Thames. Great view of the Houses of Parliament and the glass facades of the City and Docklands. Beautiful both day and night.

These were taken from a river boat last year.

Actually Hayward has an awesome auto wrecking yard. Take photos of Pick 'N Pull.
Also Hayward has all the original styled fast-food chains such as the Taco Bell that looks like a Spanish Mission, the Kentucky Fried Chicken with the huge rotating bucket and the Jack 'N The Box shaped like a box.
Also Los Dos Hermanos Mexican restaurant.

From the London Eye is the best way to view the sprawl of London.

In the foreground you have Tattershall Castle pub (the blue boat), Charing Cross station (to the right), Trafalgar Square/Nelson's Column (centre left). Further back on the right there's Centre Point and the BT Tower.
The fact is we don't make the same mistake more than 3 times....maybe 4!

What!!! Maidenhead is absolutely stunning in every way.
One look at the high street fills me with thoughts of art deco and art nouveau styles, a careful balance of style and practicality. 8-)

I consider London my "town".

For Whitehorse I would say views of downtown and surrounding area take a hike or a bike around the airport trail, for views of all of Whitehorse go for a ride up Haekel hill. Grey Mountain also has some decent views, as does the top of the coal lake road.

My favourite views of Ottawa are from the Québec side of the river, particularly along the bike path behind the Museum of Civilization (for those that know Ottawa shown in the second photo) and when coming into the city from Hull on the Portage bridge at night. Also, anything taken along the Rideau Canal is nice.
