Better 80's Band: Vixen Or The Bangles?

Mon Jul 02, 2007 10:30 pm

OK here is the situation. Me and a few of my friends were talking 80's/90's music the other day and we could not decide which was the better of the female groups between Vixen and The Bangals. Which is your choice?

Bangles, easily. But you really should go back 2-3 more years as the Runaways blew them both away.

The Go-Go's and Belinda Carlisle blew them all out of the water.

Vixen, because they did a song called "Computer Madness" on the '80's skin flick "Hardbodies". Come on, it was like 1983 and they were singing a song about computers, that is hardcore.

Is this Friday's stupid thread? Big grin

If I had to make a choice, I'd go with the Bangles.
Manic Monday was written by Prince (artist formerly known as Prince).

Not really.
RUSH was doing that in 1976.
Kraftwert was doing that in 1981.

She has a great voice.
Although not an all female band, the best female rock artist has to be Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart.

A good choice but I'm disappointed, what of Suzi Quatro, Joan Jett, The Runaways etc.
Quatro was THE best female Rocker of all time.
None Better. Can't be touched. No one even close. Albums from 73 til present, and she was hot.

I like The Runaways. Joan Jett is ok and still wish I could have seen her open for The Police back in 1983.
Suzi Quatro I am not too familiar with. I do have one Suzi Quatro song on a K-tel 8track.
I play it when I get home.
She looks very sexy in that photo.

I am more a fan of Ann Wilson (auburn haired vocalist) circa 1976-1980 before she went on her eating binge throughout the 1980s.

The Bangles

as for ...

Quoting Superfly (Reply 14):
Ann Wilson

totally agree here. most amazing voice. she still has it today, and an incredible stage presence when singing the songs.

Pat Benatar is right up there, probably a close second.

the biggest nut ball on stage is Cyndi Lauper. she puts on a hell of a show. it'll never happen but a Pat/Cyndi/Ann on stage night would be fantabulous!!!

That combined with the rest of the band delivers a solid package. Nancy Wilson, Howard Leese, Michael Derosier(sp) and Steve Fossen were amazing together. I love the instrumentation on there early material including the ballads.
The 1980s hair metal stage was good also and that is what got me in to Heart initially.

Cyndi Lauper

I can't stand her voice!  vomit
It's just unnecessarily squeaky and annoying. Time After Time is a decent song but everything else is an oscillating obstacle course for my ears.  boggled

The Go-Go's

Speaking of the Go-Gos, here's an old dumb joke:

Q. Why can't the Go-Gos get pregnant?

A. Because their lips are sealed,

 tongue

Suzi Quatro I am not too familiar with. I do have one Suzi Quatro song on a K-tel 8track.

She's Leather Tuscadero, the litttle sister of Fonzi's girlfriend (Pinky Tuscadero) from Happy Days.

Funny her only hit here was 'Stumblin' in', a pop duet with Chris Norman.

That is the song on my K-tel 8track.

I guess I wont ever see that character. I can't stand Happy Days.
When ever I hear that theme song, it stays in my head for several days. I don't like that corny early 60s doo-whop rock.
The 1970s shows I like has to be era specific and not that 50s/early 60s retro junk.

Stumblin' In was 6 years later (1979)
She was the first real Female Rocker, the shame is she is probably more well known in Australia and Europe than at home in the US.

Point taken, and I like Rush (they were very first concert), but Geddy Lee is one ugly broad, that's for sure.
