BlackBerry 8800.

I've got the 8700, and it has everything above except the camera and FM radio. The 8800 has everything except the FM Radio.

I have the BlackBerry 8800 and I am thrilled with it. The GPS program does get you around, although it is not as good as GPS-only units, but I guess as with all all-in-ones there has to be a compromise somewhere. No camera or touch screen on the 8800 though, but is great with e-mail.

Good luck.

If there was an indian distributor already, it would certainly fit. But that will probably still take a while, so it's not in the running yet.

I meant it in sarcasm. I like the Iphone a lot, but would definitely wait for version 2. iPhone has few bugs that have to be fixed, and can certainly get some more functionality.

So far no hardware-related flaws are apparent to my knowledge. And Apple has a good track record of providing added functionality through software updates. "First revision phobia" is largely overblown with Apple. Most of their revision A products have turned out to be fine.

The iPhone has the features you've requested above, but it's not available in India or anywhere outside the USA yet.

The biggest difference in practice will be in the user interface and consequently in the resulting ease of use (or lack thereof).

If you are interested in the iphone then you should be able to get through ebay or something, provided they are unlocked and can be used with an India network

Please, PLEASE, do NOT get the P990i. i'm on my third now, none of them can keep the time - and my dad has the same problem with his (on his 4th). They are flimsy, tones are quiet, buttons are nasty, random software bugs which change on every single phone i get - I can recite a list of about 20 simple but piss off annoying faults - and all on a phone which retails at £300.

Well, one of these would do a better job than a P990:

Mel: Blackberries do not use a touchscreen and stylus. The older ones (like my 8700g) use a trackwheel on the side, while the newer Curve (8300) and 8800, both of which are available on Bharti Airtel, have a scroll button on the centre. The keyboard may be a bit cramped if you're partial to a full slider keyboard. I'm personally not a touchscreen fan because they feel too squishy to me, so I can't speak for the HTC devices. I hate windows mobile 5 though; its unstable compared to the Blackberry OS, from personal experience.

On another note, I was surprised at the extent of EDGE coverage available - not just in bigger metro areas, but even in small towns in Kerala, where I expected nothing more than GPRS. I expected congestion to rise, with 7 million new mobile subscribers added each month nationwide, but at least data services appeared fine so far both on Hutch (now Vodafone) and Airtel.

Thanks Barfbag......
After good battery life & voice clarity,My primary purpose is a PDF file reader similiar to Adobe Acrobat & secondary would be Browser/Email/2MP+ camera.
I plan to use it at work on the Tarmac,so Rain proof is an issue.
QWERTY keyboard as its easier to pen in sentences.
The Stylis so that moving thru those PDF pages can be fast.

Ah yes I see, I'm sure there is a supplier somewhere around - HTC support is generally worldwide. You're closer to Hong Kong than I am and I got top notch service from them!
Is there an i-mate supplier? They sell a branded unit called the i-mate Jasjam

The Blackberries have the advantage of being backed by Bharti AirTel & Vodafone/Essar. The 8700, 8300/Curve and 8800 are all available, along with BIS/BES support. They do have very good email integration, and you can also run IM clients (yahoo, msn etc) on them. While I've never tried it, there's quite likely a few PDF readers out there. Ideally I'd prefer a less proprietary approach than the Blackberries use, but they put together a good product - good battery life, stable setup and business oriented features. I've dropped mine several times, and even kicked it down the hall once when I dropped it while walking. No problems at all. Use a skin and you can keep the rain off. Of course, with Bombay's monsoons, you probably need a flood protection plan too  Smile
