Thanks for giving us an updated thread to post in! I will try to get my flight info taken care of this evening when I get home.

I was looking over the FOP site last week. Here's an interesting page on it: http://www.foprangeinc.com/range_newsletter_spring_2007.htm

Apparently they've had some rocket scientists shooting the hell out of some of the infrastructure there.

Anybody talked to John Blue lately?

The select few, every range has it's ass-hats.

Notice this little tid-bit?

The Steel Plate matches are starting back up. We'll run the Steel Challenge format match on ranges 1 and 2 on the second Saturday of each month.

I picked up another G29 over the weekend... A friend was selling off part of his collection to build up some AR's.

I completely agree. I have been looking over the site and I am considering paying for a single membership just to help the cause. Really nice facility.

Another option is that a few of us pitch in (the more that picth in the cheaper it would be) and give a membership to someone local that can use it (BHMBAGLOCK comes to mind). $200 a year, or $100 initiation and $17.50 a month.

OK, here comes the BAD news.

I have cancelled Birmingham this year . . . .

Sucks, I know.

The good news part is that I was promoted in the Dept, but it caused my schedule to change to the opposite two weeks off each month. I just finished the transition to the new schedule - today in fact - and there's simply no way to get to BHM. I was able to keep the trip to Chicago/Iowa in tact to see my Daughter in September . . . but one of the trips had to go, so the obvious one was the BHM Shoot-Em-Up.

Sorry my friends . . . .

There's always Alaska in January  cold

That being said, I dont think I'll be making it either.  frown  I've already booked my plane ticket up to Ohio the following weekend to go to my cousin's wedding. Going to BHM as well would just be too much time away from school and too much $$$. (I'm saving up for a trip to SXM over Spring Break with some friends from ERAU.)

I'm really bummed because I qualified on the M9 for the Air Force while at Field Training back in May/June (didn't shoot expert though....didn't even come close as it was only my third time shooting and my second time on the M9).
I'll be aiming for BHM 2008 should there be one though.

I too must bail from this trip for pretty much the same reason why I did last year. Blame Vegas. I had planned on doing this in addition to a taking off to Vegas for a few days during the Thanksgiving Weekend. What I didn't count on was DL downgrading all of the ATL-LAS flights to narrowbodies for the bulk of November into December and at the same time, the coach fares shot up by about $200 before I had the chance to purchase my ticket.. I had no issue with coach when it was a 767, but a 757 is another story (My first 757 flight was in a coach seat on DL with really sorry seat pitch flying BOS-ATL), having done ATL-LAS in coach twice, I don't want to do it again. So the money I had planned to use for the BHM trip is having to be used to buy a first class ticket. Hey if anyone wants to do a mini-meet in Vegas during Thanksgiving weekend........

Considering that this year is the 60th birthday of the greates firearm ever invented (suck it ARfans) I think we need to commemorate the occasion while at BHM.

According to a cheesy friend of ours, this is a really good deal in case you need one:

Also a few GP-WASR-10 (AK-47's), 2-30 rd mags, bayonet, sling, cleaning kit, mag pouch, oil bottle -----$349. Optional collapsible T6 stock (installed) $50.

The GP-WASR-10 is a very good rifle... in terms of funciton.

The wood is generally sub-par though.

I've stripped the original furniture off mine and replaced it with TAPCO synthetic parts.

I'll upload a pic of it when I get home tonight.

I also recomend the clear poly mags. Great function, instant mag level checks.  thumbsup

Oh, and the wood comparison was to other AK's.

I also have a ban era SAR-1. The wood is much nicer on that one.

Reference Youtube video..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfKADcfE90U

My WASR and SAR are next to each other at 0:22 into the video. The WASR on top, the SAR on bottom. The SAR's wood is much nicer.

PS. The Poly mags really do rock.

Well, it's called life, that's all. Can't be helped. I'm sure a great bunch of A.netters will be there anyway...

Yeah, would love to be there, too . . . if Gavin and the rest are cool w/me being there (don't care to  stirthepot  ) . I'd like to have a newly purchased firearm by that time anyway. Maybe this time I can meet up with Logan/CastleIsland like I didn't in BOS.  irked

I think our general running rule is that anyone who shoots safe is welcome to come.

Yeah, well, I'm not the best shot in the world, but safety first is definitely something I plan to follow.

I've never seen any sins you've committed, what did you do and why are you concerned? You'll see that when you meet people in person they can sometimes be very different (usually in a positive way) from the way they seem on A.net.

That's OK, neither am I! I really suck at shooting guns, I have a hard time hitting the broad side of a barn. I really need to practice more, I never spend enough time at the range.

Sorry, mate. It's not looking too good because of scheduling.

I'll do the same. My Aunt wants me to visit Cali and my work might be giving me a promotion. Chances are maybe.
