Women In The U.S. Military

Sun Jul 15, 2007 3:24 am

My old unit (an F/A-18 squadron) recently deployed. Two FEMALE members decided to get pregnant a week before cruise. THAT, my friends, is complete and utter abuse of the system. It is a rampant issue that the military has to deal with because groups like the ACLU would have a field day if the Navy tried to prosecute these women. Up and down the flight line, squadrons deploying usually encounter one or two women having children to avoid being deployed.

I feel sorry for the kids and also feel sorry for the women who serve honorably and don't pull stunts like the two above did.

I'm guessing this is just a rant?

Justifiable of course.

However, there are MALE members of the military that try strange, bizarre, stupid crap to attempt to avoid deployment.

hmmm....

Well it's not like there's a law somewhere that says you can't get knocked up before a deployment. I mean I don't think there is anyway...

Yeah it's lame but what the hell are you going to do? The only way you could prosecute this is if you made a law banning fertile women from getting pregnant if they are in the military.

Since I can't read your facial expressions or hear the tone of your voice I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. But the reality is there are so many women in the military who take their jobs very seriously and are damn good at what they do. I was in the Air Force and I knew a few of them. We can't let a few losers ruin it for all the good ones. You have to realize just as ANCFlyer said, men will do some DUMB shit to get out of deployments as well.

I just read about a guy who is using the court to avoid his 4th or 5th deployment on Sunday. Ha. I have read 2 other news stories about a guy here in the burbs and another MALE not wanting to be deployed for some reason. One was discharged also.

So you have females who can become pregnant. You also have females who serve honorably. You have males who serve honorably and you damn sure have males who are stra8 pansies when "deployment" comes about.

There are good and bad apples in both genders in the military.

While I agree there are some excellent women in the military that do an outstanding job, I think the military should be all male. When a woman is given a little bit of power, it goes to their head. I also agree that some men do some outrageous shit to get out of deployments.

No. That's what a lot of northerners think of NASCAR. It's like a closed society. Just good ol' boys pretending that they're still hauling hooch. The only ones that can come and play are those whose daddies were drivers and those who are invited into the fold.

Alright man, I misunderstood your message. I am aware that "some" Northerners think that about Nascar however some of Nascar's greatest fans are from the North. Several buddies of mine fly down for every race in Daytona are from PA and are HUGE fans. My driver (Tony Stewart) is from Indiana and their are also several drivers from the North. I viewed your profile and saw you live in WI. Matt Kenseth is from Cambridge, WI. Theirs good and bad fans in Nascar just like any sport.

BTW, Their aint nothing wrong with Red tails! Big grin

I'm not sure if you ever served in the military but this is a problem with men as well. My First Sergeant was a female. She was the one who did our dorm inspections and disciplined the airmen for acting out of line. She was an EXCELLENT First Sergeant. And she was definitely in a position of power. She didn't put up with any bullshit, yet she was extremely fair and she looked out for us at the same time. I owe her one, she got my ass out of trouble once. I have all the respect in the world for our military but damn some of the NCO's (and right now I'm talking about men) are retards. You can tell some of these asswipes were picked on a lot in school and they take it out on the lower ranking guys.

Sickening is what those chicks did. If you make your bed you damn well better lay in it. They should be cort marshalled in my opinion if it can be proven that they were intentional. Either that or get them back ou8t of the cockpit all together. What a riot. The other side is if us men learn shortly before headding out that we are going to be dads it is no excuse. So as far as I am concerned there is valid reason to kick woman out of the combat cockpit all together.

Well, they aren't pilots. They are maintenance personnel. That is a moot point though. Anyone with half a brain knows that these girls got pregnant to avoid deployment. In fact, one did so around the same time we went on deployment last year. It's just sickening to me to think that they think having a kid is an option to not deploy. While the rest of the unit deploys, these women sit back at home, sleep in their own beds at night, get paid MORE for having an additional dependent, and then get decorated with their unit as if they were ON the ship supporting combat operations! It's an outrage!

I personally did my time and I am in the process of getting out of the military. Never did I consider trying to circumvent the system. Having a child is literally a get out of jail free card for women in the military. I'm not saying completely deny them reproductive rights, but what I am saying is that defining where and WHEN they can is completely justifiable.

Something like not allowing women to get pregnant within 90 days of a deployment cycle, or, in the Navy's case, not at ALL while on a sea tour; or, even better, to "obliserve" and extend women's enlistment contracts to make up for time lost who break the policy. It's not like they didn't know they were going on cruise. We even had a girl get pregnant ON CRUISE last year. The Navy (i.e. the taxpayer) had to pay for here trip back home to the US, which happened immediately when she tested positive.

It's a MAJOR issue, and I hope someone in DC is working on the problem - since I'm a taxpayer, and all. These bad apples are raping the system outright, there's no denying it. With that said, I've come across from awesome women in the military who know their jobs inside and out and wouldn't throw their reproductive rights around like these women did.

What they did sucks but until you pass some sort of law banning women from getting pregnant in the military then there's no argument. They didn't break any law.

I am sure a good team of lawyers could find a way to nail them. If you do not want to serve, do not join up, bottom line.
We can't stay home if we get our wives or girlfreinds prego so why the heck should pregnency be a reason they cannot go? To rationalize I do not expect someone who is squatting a watermellon to go o ver but if it could be proven intentional I think it is giood enough reason to bring a case of some sort against them. I did not want to chance getting shipped out so I never joined,. I am not afemale but everyone screams equality so tough crap lady if you do not feel like going.
