Walmart Furniture

Tue Jul 17, 2007 9:32 am

I bought a futon from Walmart 8 weeks ago and nearly fell through today. It was cheap at 118.00 and wonder if these couches are built for small people vs. big like me. I weigh 195lbs and everytime I sit down, it feels like its going to break. My question is has anyone else experienced problem with Walmart or her sister brands in the UK?

My butt fell through part of it today. My brother in law and I are going to install a board and hopefully this will be a good repair.

If I were you, I would not touch the thing and take it back. It is almost certainly under warranty.

Wal Mart has a good return policy so I suggest you return it and get your money back.

checkmark  Dont do anything to it and take it back. Get a refund and go to IKEA, if you have one in your area. They have better stuff there than WalMart does.

Just about anywhere has better stuff than Wal-Mart. If possible spend your money at a locally owned store.

My $100 WalMart futon is holding up okay. It's horribly uncomfortable and thus I need to replace it, but it hasn't broken yet.

My 60 Dollar Desk and Bookshelf have held up pretty well, Although it does seem to shake from side to side if I bump it...

I'd file a complaint and return it.

Well, honestly I think $118.00 for a Wal-Mart futon is rather expensive. I'd take it back. I mean, you can't beat the price at Wal-Mart, but Target has some nice furniture as well if you are looking for stuff like that, though their interior home stuff gets a bit pricey for what it really is.

Thats wal-mart china quality furniture for ya.

I have stopped shopping at Wallys all together I don't like their labor practices and their strong arming vendors to provide them products at below cost.

Wal Mart is only good for the share holders and the executives. Yes by all means go to Ikea or better yet support the local store in your town...may cost more but you will get a better quality product and a better feeling knowing your $$$ are staying in the community.

I will not patronize Wal-Mart willingly for those exact same reasons. My habits are to support local businesses as much as possible-better than half my meals out are at locally owned eateries. The food is far better than any chain and if the eatery is on 4th Avenue, I get a discount since I drive the streetcar and our street railway is a member of the 4th Avenue Merchant's Association in Tucson. Members of the Association give each other a %10 discount at businesses operated by fellow Members.

I also appreciate my employer's policy regarding companies allowed to operate the vending machines and food service at my workplace. As I work for the county, the Arizona Revised Statutes prohibit commercial vendors from operating the vending machines and food service. Only companies recognized by the State of Arizona as owned and primarily operated by persons who are legally hearing impaired or vision impaired OR organizations that benefit the hearing impaired or vision impaired may be permitted to place and operate vending machines in government owned buildings. Quality's the same as with the commercial vendors, but you know the profits are going to a good cause.

But they sold you something that broke in the first place? Why spend your time and money on something that they should have gotten right from the beginning?

Because in my opinion its worth it. If the entire thing was broken, then yes i'd take it back. If it ain't broken all the way, fix it.

I am not one to resist dogging on Walmart, BUT... ANY $118 futon is going to be crap. It is going to have the chintziest mattress stuffed w/ old newspapers and rags and will have a frame that was welded together by blind albino monkeys. The difference in quality between a $100 futon set and a $250 futon set is pretty big.

That said, return what you have to Wally World and go check out a local mattress/futon store and see what you can get there. You would be better served by forking over an extra buck or two to get something of better quality as well.

I for my part buy antique furniture, (deisgn classics, etc)

So instead of buying some jung for 200 US$ and throwing it away after 5 years with a 200 US$ loss, I go for the 700 antique option wich at least keeps it's value or even gets more rare (hence more expensive) even after decades.

They look better, have way better quality and are cheaper in the end ... what do you want more?

Yeah - because that Swedish stuff will last twice as long as the 8 weeks you got out of the Wal-Mart stuff.  Wink

I paid a whole lot less for "Swedish stuff" than wally world crap almost 3 years ago. It still looks and feels like it is new. For cheap furniture IKEA has no equal in price or quality. Just don't even bother trying to pronounce the product names. I am sure the staff there must get sick of hearing "that thing over there"

My family makes the furniture work for our needs. Its wrong to cause pain after 8 weeks of use. My grandpa knows how to weld, but until he gets better, the board will suffice.

Either you were incredibly lucky with your purchase of all of my friends have been incredibly UNLUCKY with theirs - because all of the experiences I've heard of with IKEA furniture so far have been less than stellar.
