Update On Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

Fri Jul 20, 2007 12:58 pm

Read on the internet.

Grand Hyatt Duta Kuala Lumpur was supposed to be completed by 1997 but due to the bankruptcy of the developer everything was put on hold and is 80% done only.

From what I read, Hyatt International has abandoned that hotel and decided to open up a Grand Hyatt right next to Petronous Twin Tower. Wonder why they don't spend the money and resume the project instead of building a new one.

Can anyone confirm that?

Hyatt would have only been lending their name to the hotel. Since the developer became insolvent, Hyatt would have been able to walk away from the project and come to terms with another hotel operator.

I know.

Wonder when will they carry on with that building. It's already 10 years!!!!!!!!!! Time flies

I am sure it will resume construction one day. But when?

There was a rumour that a new development plan awaits the abandoned Grand Hyatt Duta Kuala Lumpur, but it was not materialised. The future of the building in question remain uncertain and yes, it was constructed up to around 40 storey tall before being abandoned until today.

I am also puzzled on why there is no one interested in that building. Based on the original plan, the building is going to be KL's 4th tallest at 243 meter tall. It is located next to LRT Damai Station (light transit line), opposite the Bukit Nanas KL Monorail Station, within walking distance to KLCC and Hard Rock Cafe and also close to 2 others luxury hotels in KL, the Renaissance New World and the Sheraton Imperial. Maybe it has bad feng shui because it is located by the river and prone to KL's notorious flash flood?

Hyatt has since signed a new agreement for a development of a new hotel in Kuala Lumpur. I am not sure about the actual location, but I believe it is going to be around the KLCC area. Construction has yet to commence.

Here is the rendering of the new Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur.

What will happen to the abandoned Grand Hyatt Duta Kuala Lumpur? Will it be completed one day? If yes when? Will it still be called Grand Hyatt? Will it be a hotel?

No, as Hyatt has planned a new hotel in Kuala Lumpur, as pictured above. As for the rest of the questions, only time will tell.

I suppose Hyatt has waited for too long and they got fed up and they decided to plan for another Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur. 10 years is just rediculous!

Someone should have taken over it ages ago

I suppose the abandoned Grand Hyatt Duta Kuala Lumpur will eventually become a hotel. Wonder when......... They will definitely carry on with it

Looks cool. Hyatt's are nice, I usually tend to favor them when looking for a (better) Hotel.
