More Bad Flooding!

Sun Jul 22, 2007 12:18 am

What is going on a the moment.
We dont normally here things like ;

Quote:
More than 2,000 people are taken to emergency shelters and hundreds more are stranded

Quote:
The fire and rescue service said it was working at "full stretch" and only answering "risk-to-life calls

Quote:
EMERGENCY EVACUATION CENTRES

But these are all over the news again today, as they have been kind of most of the summer due to the weather we are getting. Bad storms are moving up the UK today, but have serverely disrupted life again. This time Gloucester, where i grew up and my father lives, has been hit badly

Look at these pics
http://www.bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire...alleries/july_floods_gallery.shtml
(Im meant to be at that train station on Friday!!)

It never really hits home, the effect of this when its not happening to you. I got told by my dad his car nearly came off the road 3 times becasue the current was so strong. Took him 4 hours to go 7 miles in BAD rain. Luckly his house is on kind of a hill, with a steep drive, but houses either side, and on the other side of the road are flooded.

Any glouscester people in here, hope you all ok, as to anyone affected this summer.

Im so sure this time last year we were complaining it was too hot!!!
Where does the time go???

We don't get it that bad out here, except during the monsoon season when the washes run. Then our rescue services get to rescue the morons that drive into the flooded washes and get themselves stranded.

Our thoughts go to those affected.
I would not mind having some of their rain here on the Riviera. It would cool us off, it is way too hot. Sad

Blackpool Airshow is on today and it's totally chucking it down with black skies. It was the same yesterday.  Sad

I have never known a major Motorway closed due to floods - Families have been stuck on the M5 for hours and the Aerial pictures on last nights news was unbelievable. We here in the UK are sick to death of this constant rain...Rant Rant ( but that's another story)

I feel so sorry for those who are submerged in their houses, I'm lucky, a local river which has turned in to a giant pool is just far enough away from my house.....

Time we had a break from this, sure all you UK A.Nuts would agree !!

My girlfriend (who is living in Dublin, Ireland) told me also that it has been raining for 3-4 weeks straight over there.
Here in Germany the weather has been pretty mixed, a few days rain followed by a few days very hot weather (30°C +) , then thunderstorms and another few days of rain. So far the summer has been pretty cold though, not the usual weeks of hot weather and sunshine.

On Friday morning I was woken up by rumbles of thunder and low flying aircraft into LHR. I opened the window and had a look out to see how bad it was, I was greeted with this

A few minutes later it started raining very heavily and it wasn't long until the drains were over flowing and the place was flooded, the water is now gone but has left a horrible smell and a grey layer of sludge.
