DEI To Merge With Ginn Racing

http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/head...p/07/25/dei.ginn.merger/index.html

Well now DEI will have a four car team (01, 1, 8, 15), and the 15 car will have the 13 car's owner points which will put Menard in the top 35.

Here's a quick rundown of the cars in the merger and what I think will happen to them.

#8 - Dale Earnhardt Jr.

#1 - Martin Truex Jr.

#15 - Paul Menard

#01 - Mark Martin/Regan Smith

#13 - Close Team

#14 - Close Team

#39 - Close Team

Busch Series

#4 - Regan Smith

Undecided Drivers

Sterling Marlin - Leave, go to Furniture Row Racing for a second team?

Joe Nemechek - Go to new team E&M Motorsports in #08

Aric Almirola - Left JGR last week to race with Mark Martinin the 01 car. Back to JGR??

Well, I see Bobby Ginn's plans to run a race team have melted down. Another millionaire/billionaire that bought into a race team, only to have it disappear soon after. Anybody remember a guy named Tim Beverly buying DW's #17 team in 1998? That lasted about four weeks.

Marlin and Nemecheck were fired by Ginn last week. Eventhough they are under contract for the rest of the year they are free to look elsewhere. All DEI is going to do is take the best of Ginn and get rid of the rest.

Thanks Duff, so does anyone know what's going to happen to Regan Smith? Will he need to find a new team? If so, where?

Probably not a bad move for both teams. Ginn was in over his head, and DEI's recent troubles are somewhat mitigated with the formation of this new team. Teresa is looking to do anything she can to stay competitive in 2008 and beyond to attempt to silence the critics of her letting Dale Jr. get away.

Dale Jr aside (since he's leaving), the only two teams left between DEI and Ginn that are any good on the track would be the 01 of Mark Martin and the 1 of Martin Truex.....the rest should be tossed out, cannibalized, and and two them rebuilt. It has all the ring of the PanAm/National merger...two down in the dumps organizations joining forces to make create one gigantic mistake.

Bobby Ginn is the modern day JD Stacy.

Aric Almirola is the modern day Rodney Combs.

In twenty years, no one will know who any of these guys are and those who do will try to ignore the fact they remember who they are. But hey look at it this way, looks like Ginn will have Dale Jr. on his team after all. I remember just a few months ago Ginn being in talks to have Junior sign with his team. Imagine if he signed, thought he was getting away from his mom, only to have weeks later him back on her team.

JD Stacy.

The first race I ever went to was the 1982 Daytona 500.....Stacy's cars littered the track that day (figuratively, and as it turned out, literally). Joe Ruttman, Terry Labonte, Ron Bouchard, Jody Ridley, Jim Sauter, Dave Marcis, and Benny Parsons all drove for JD Stacy that day. IIRC, Stacy's multiple team ownership, and to a lesser extent, Warner Hodgdon, began the process to where NASCAR ended up limiting the number of teams an owner could field.

Unless I missed something along the line, he'll only have him for not quite half of this season.

I disagree, I think he has a great amount of talent for a 20 year old, and will have a good chance to do well for the rest of the year. Not counting his "win" in Milwaukee or wherever, but he has run good in the Busch series all year.

Aric Almirola needs to prove himself in the Busch Series with quality runs in a car other then the #20. There are two cars that will run at the front of every Busch race no matter who the driver is, the #20 and the #60. Average finishes of 22nd in the Busch Series wont cut it in the already bloated Winst... oops Nex... I mean Sprint Cup... its going to be Sprint right? anyways NASCAR's Top Tier entry list. Remember Buckshot Jones had a few good Busch runs too and you saw what happen when he got his hands on a Cup ride. And that was in the Pre-Brian France era.

@Tom, yea that wasnt ment to be serious.

Anyone here anything about a possible Newman Hass/Robert Yates Racing Merger? That would be quite a pairing if true with teams in both Champ Car and the Nascar Cup Series.

I hope he never goes back to JGR. Not after that crap they pulled on him in Milwaukee. Sponsor or not, you don't take a guy that's leading out of the car....That's just wrong!

I wonder what they will do with the flight departments..? DEI just added a EMB-145... and Ginn has 2 Saab 2000's.

Could DEI start service to RFD?

With more teams, they'll need more airplanes. I cant see why at least one of the Saab's will stick around.
