What Is The Deal With Railpictures.net?

Fri Jul 27, 2007 9:16 am

Ok, so I upload a photo to them meeting their said requirements and they have chosen to reject it. That would be fine but I cannot see the reason matching the image, especially comparing it with others from their site that were accepted.

Would like your views.

Not well composed, I think, and I cant see that the image quality is any better.

I think your posting on the wrong forum. They have one on RP. (joking)

They can drive you nuts. I have questioned many things in their forum and I received a pm from the admin(not Kilroy) saying that I was stirring things up and it was my last warning. So, I stopped posting on the forums.

A tip for acceptance there, they prefer a nice landscape in the background or a bridge/tunnel etc. and with a nice blue clear sky. Thay don't need to be razor sharp like A.net.

TBH I see nothing wrong with your shot, but for them may be the sky is not blue enough.

Nice shot!!!!

If anything, the only problem I think they might have is the contrast in the sky. From the looks of it, you're shooting in overcast conditions with strong light, which can be a real headache to get some decent shots from!! Anyway, I just retouched the sky, and brought out the color more. Don't know if this will do the trick, but just thought I'd give it a shot  Smile.

Bottom line is; don't be discouraged by your shot getting regected, it doesn't mean you can't take great shots!! Keep shooting, and showing your great shots off!!!!  Smile

...hah, train nerds  Wink

I used to spend hours on that site back in its early days.
Think I spent most of my times waiting on dial up though.

Frickin' AOL! I don't care that I have mail!!

Cheers for your advice.

I would have posted on their forum but it won't let me for some reason. They make you have two usernames, one for the gallery and I have no idea what my forum one is!

I like the retouched version, the problem with the original is really the camera I think, it tends to over expose anything contrasting. Probably going to replace it anyway.

Even so I dont think RP should be so demanding of their photography, its an enthusiasts community, not an art gallery, right?

Yeah, I had a few photos rejected there for "clouds". I guess trains only run in good weather according to them...

That explains why there are no recent photos from Greater Manchester then  Smile

I've heard that their standards are really high, still I suppose it would be easier to get one accepted than here right?...

I've not uploaded anything here for about a year now, seems I go taking photos of aircraft for the wrong reasons now - to get them accepted rather than for my own enjoyment, which means of course an awful lot of shots get axed right away to save camera space.

Actually, I have heard the opposite.
