Poor Service From Bank In The UK

Here is the situation I am leaving Lloyds TSB and transferring the money to the Abbey as their current account pays a higher rate of interest.

It has taken several days more than what they say in their literature for the transfer to be completed. I telephoned the Abbey's transfer team and I was told as it just a couple of days over their stipulated time it wasn't problem. Is it just me or do you think this attitude sucks?

They make money ofcourse by doing so.
In our computer age should it just take
seconds. The EU comission have asked
the large banks in member countries to
explain why it takes so long time. But
we already know the answer. I am
sorry to say that i had been best to take
out the money cash or on a cheque and
walk over to the other bank...

I am with Abbey as are my whole family. If it wasn't for that, I'd switch. It's just easy this way.

My card got swallowed by a machine, it took 9 weeks to send me a new one, and they tried to charge me over £160 in "overdrawn fees" on my other account (cash card) despite not being able to access a bank everytime I wanted to make a withdrawl from my "main" account that I no longer had a card for.

I transfer my Father-in-law's pension from the Uk to NZ every month and it has run like clockwork for 4 years, we pay the rtasnaction fees here in NZ as it is cheaper.

Then, they suddenly start taking the fees out at the Uk end as well, I complain, they eventually get back to me and say they will talk to the guy responsible....and he does it again the next time....took nearly 2 weeks and 5 e-mails to even get a reply, got it refunded though but good grief!!!! Can the guy even read!!???

Out here in NZ I can transfer by internet between accounts in the same bank chain in real time and 2 days to an account from another bank and new cards are issued over the counter.

In Sweden you have better service than here in the UK it takes three days for my salary to be paid electronically.

Your more likely to get divorced than to change bank statistically. It's not that difficult all need you need is the address of your salary department and a list to tell your new bank all your direct debits and some old statements. My parents are with the Abbey when we moved they asked lots of irrelevant information in the form and they lost it and sent statements ot their old house.

A colleague told me of similar experience with them and left them as it happened several times.

I had a mortgage with Abbey. A more inflexible, unhelpful outfit you couldn't find anywhere in my opinion. Lloyds TSB on the other hand have bent over backwards to help my wife and me over the last few months.

I am currently looking to get out of Abbey. The entire operation seems to be run by a bunch of wild monkeys (who else accidently deletes an internet account!) and the attitude I've had from them is appalling especially for a bank.

RBS 'accidentally' closed my current account, the account which I use daily and which all my directs debits come out of and which my salary goes in to. I only found out when I put the card in the machine and it swallowed it..!

It was only after attending a review with branch manager on a Saturday morning which is something most others wouldn't do. The manager essentially used it it to try and sell their card protection but when I told him as I live in household that has it and I can't have it because of that he no longer had my confidence. He tried to sell me a mortgage but I suspect he was only interested in making money on the arrangement fees and likely not be around when things go wrong. Unfortunately for him I looked at rivals savings and current accounts and decided to go the Abbey as their current account pays more than the 0.01% interest Lloyds classic account pays. Another plus for me is that Abbey don't charge to use your plastic in Spain as parents will be moving there in a few months made it more attractive as they have a large presence with Santander.

A colleague said he couldn't believe I didn't get an apology from them. I am considering writing to the finance section of a paper to describe the experience. As a former shareholder I disappointed by their attitude.

From personal experience, British banks try to charge for every damned thing. Much more so than USA banks. I'm surprised they don't charge you 50p to get in the front door... like a pay toilet.

Lloyd's wanted to charge me 1% to deposit one of THEIR checks into the account of one of THEIR customers.

I love the ones that try to charge you to use THEIR car park to do business in THEIR bank.

And the best one... A Nat West bank clerk wanted to charge me 50p to make change for a fiver for a parking meter.
