Friday Stupid Thread: Your Car Insurance Premiums

Fri Aug 03, 2007 8:36 am

Yup. It's Friday in many parts of the world so why not start a useless thread.

How much are your car insurance premiums? And is that for full coverage or just liability?

Mine is $805 a year for full coverage on a 2003 Ford Ranger 4x4. That price reflects the increase of $100 I received last September for my "California Roll" thru a stop sign 1/4 mile from my house at 5:30am.

Mine is $2208 for a year. 100/300 coverage with $1000 deductibles on a 2006 Honda Accord.

When I lived in New Jersey it was $3838 for the same coverage.

$378/year. Basic coverage only (no collision, comprehensive, etc...) through AAA on my POS '92 Saturn. On my main ride, however, (99 Honda Shadow 1100), I have full coverage through GEICO which only runs me $128/yr.

$1680 for a year on an 02 Yukon and 04 Tahoe combination with full coverage. Not too bad for Harris County. And I'm insured with USAA, so I'm looking forward to a bonus rebate check at the end of the year  biggrin

About $580 a year for a 2003 Honda Accord, which isn't bad for being 23. I get a safe driver discount and good student discount, those help. I currently don't have a car in Namibia since I am living in the US, and I don't know what my parents pay for their insurance back in Windhoek as a comparison. I should probably find out in prep. for my move back...

100/300 coverage, plus full coverage- 12 month policy

2004 Toyota Highlander $493
2007 Toyota Prius $1014
2001 Toyota Prius $1954 (primary driver is 17 years of age, ouch!)

AARP/Hartford

Sidenote insurance companies aren't in love with the Prius due to the cost of replacing the battery pack in a rear end collision so the collision portion is high. Collision on the Highlander is $83, the Prius is $239 and $439.

Because here in the UK insurance companies like to screw every single young driver (17-25) for what they are worth with sky high premiums I'm paying £1,300 for 3rd Party Fire and Theft for my T-reg (1999) Fiat Punto (1.2 SX 60).

To go on Fully Comp my premiums would be in the region of £2,000-3,000.

It's not screwing, it's called paying your share! Young drivers, and particularly inexperienced young drivers are MANY more times more likely to have an accident than someone who is over 25, hence we pay a larger share of the overall insurance burden on drivers. Though incidentally I only pay £152 a year for my Stilo JTD and 328i on a fully-comprehensive multi-car policy (along with fully comp cover for any vehicle I don't own) with both myself and my best friend as named drivers - and we're both under 25! (just)

And how long have you been driving? When I was 17 I was paying £1800 a year for third party only cover on my Astra 2.0 GTE, but I wanted a car so had to pay for it. You have a choice!

I drive a 2006 Ford Focus and mine is around £390 per year fully comprehensive with 4 years no claims discount, I do have my wife on the policy as a named driver and it is insured for business use. I would not call that a lot really, I would prefer not to pay it, but it does give you piece of mind.

super cheap because i am insured through a company that only insures to public school teachers which my dad was years and years ago, but because i have other policies (life) with them, i can use them for amazing auto insurance rates too.

About £1200 for this year but my monthly premium is actually £120/month because i switched cars, I haven't figured out why yet.. Thats third party although it will drop to around £800 in October when I get my policy renewal and that will be fully comprehensive. This is with 4 years of claim free driving as a named driver and a years no claims bonus as of October.. I'm 20 and have a 2.0i mondeo.

Approximately $500 a year for my 2001 Altima. When I had a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, it was about $1200. UV/SUV insurance rates in Arizona are two or three times what they are in other parts of the US because the smugglers like to steal them and take them back to Mexico.

No, I don't think so, it was just a joke... what I think is that you should be careful to pick a legal exhaust, if you actually want to modify it. I know of people who have gotten fines because of exhausts which were illegal on their cars.
