Ideas For My Dads 59 Birthday

Mon Aug 06, 2007 2:52 am

Anyone have any good ideas? I know we are having a cook out but would like to know what would be good before he turns 60. His birthday is in december and his wifes is 1 day before.

Find something he mentioned about his past or his childhood and then find something from that period for a gift.

My old man used to call me and my sister "the Gold dust Twins" and I asked him about that. His mother used Gold Dust . It was a washing powder sold in the 1930s that featured a pair of black kids in the advertising. So one day I was in an antique shop and found a box of Gold Dust in perfect condition. I bought it and sent it to him with a card that said "Happy Birthday from 1936".

For my dads 50th (9 years ago) I bought him an American flyer train set like he had when he was a kid. I was able to get a good look at it in some photos. I went to a vintage Lionel and American flyer shop in St. Louis and picked it up. I could get everything. I got the locomotive, some cars, a caboose, track, and a transformer. Dad's birthday is December 13th so he was able to set it up around the Christmas tree. He loves it.

What does your dad like to do? I always get my dad stuff that will help him do what he likes. My dad works with railroad equipment at work and for fun at a museum. I get him tools and equipment that he will use for that stuff. He also travels a lot for business so I get him stuff he can use on the road too.

Throw a living will party. And why not go ahead with funeral arrangements?
