Quick Ebay Feedback Question

Hi all,

just a short question regarding feedback on eBay: if you buy something from a private seller, he charges you the exact amount advertised for shipping, ships the item exactly as described in record time, gives you its tracking number and leaves very positive feedback, do you have a point bitching about the shipping & handling charge and giving "neutral" feedback?

I'm just a bit irked by this one pinhead.  irked

I forgot to add: said seller also includes a free add-on to the item you just bought... and still, you complain.

That's what he should have done, thank you. I thought I was alone with that opinion for a second. But never you mind, he knew better and called the shipping charge he had obviously agreed to pay "extortionate" after I had left him positive feedback. Good for him, at least he got a free DSL Splitter out of the deal.  sarcastic  So, should I ever feel the urge to work in the retail business, I'll just remember there are a lot of people like that and look for a different career opportunity.

I'd most likely leave a positive. Anything other can mar his feedback (which is a pain in the @ss to deal with, as a seller). Also, If you didn't agree with the shipping price, why did you purchase the item? I've noticed lately, though, that some sellers like to advertise some high-ish dollar items at incredible Buy it Now prices, only to tack on a ridiculous shipping and "handling" fee, anywhere from $75-$150. Was that the case in this auction? If not, I agree with Freckles. Leave a positive, but make note of the shipping price as you leave your comment.

No, the shipping costs were advertised prior to you making the commitment - if you had an issue with the shipping costs, you were quite welcome to not make the purchase.

Yeah... something else that I don't like: people who you've given feedback a day or two after the transaction who need weeks to return it. Come on, it's just a few clicks!

As for computer games: the only time I became the victim of eBay fraud was when I bought a game for €10 there. I was much too patient with the seller, who never returned my e-mails, so when I had finally had enough, I couldn't even use any of the buyer protection stuff they have and was left only with giving negative feedback.  banghead

I was the seller and got the worse of the deal. The item was €25 "buy it now" plus €9 for shipping and handling. Yeah because they don't pay Ebay fees on shipping charges, thats why.

Ugh... damnit! I googled the guy and one of the first results was his second eBay profile. So he's a commercial reseller with a private profile for his bargain hunting, and judging from the comments I'm not the first he's played foul with.  banghead

Like somebody else said at least you got a neutral from the person and not a negative.

We have about 2400 transactions on eBay as sellers. We have ONE negative feedback. This was from a lady who bought an item from us that cost her $1.99, and that includes the shipping cost. She left us a negative because she said it "wasn't what she thought it would be".

We were more than happy to give her a negative in return.

On another note, Ive just had the most aweful time trying to pay someone in Germany who doesn't accept Paypal, Cheques or money orders, just bank transfer (twice the cost of the actual item to make the transfer itself) or money via registered letter.

You didn't have to bid on it - just try looking at his accepted payment methods before bidding.

I actually did, his auction had paypal as one of the options but it had been disabled at some point (no, its not a scam, I have been in contact with other people that have won auctions recently from him and got their goods).

Same with PayPal, eBay's subsidiary. A friend applied for a job and although the vacant position was advertised, he literally needed one or two days to find out where to apply. The advert was published without any contact information whatsoever and the help desk or whatever that was he called, had no clue. Scheißladen.

Agreed; I often estimate costs for unusual items, but it's made clear what those costs are by the bid button - don't like it, don't bid! It's not like you set the charges after they have bought it usually.

Only if you don't set the price for P+P before, and they then buy, then they can expect reasonable extra costs (or decline to buy the item).

I've got to admit the guy has some cheek - writes me back and says that

a) "including" the PayPal charge in S&H was "forbidden" - good job I never did, then.
b) the parcel service most of his clients use was cheaper - and? FR is cheaper than LH, too!
c) the box the original item (DSL router) was originally sold in can easily be wrapped in paper as a parcel - gee, how would I have included the bloody second box containing his free splitter? And what would he have said if the original box had been damaged in the process?
d) I should be glad he didn't give me negative feedback!!!

What an arsehole... so the lesson is: if there's anything peculiar in the profile of a buyer, such as many near identical purchases like in this case, be wary!

When I purchase on ebay (or anywhere online) I always consider my total cost for the item to be the purchase price plus shipping/handling. It doesn’t matter to me whether I’m buying a $1 item and paying $4 for shipping or a $4 item with $1 shipping, the item still costs $5. I think it’s a bit dishonest to charge excessive shipping (not saying you did, Aloges), but I would never consider leaving negative feedback if I agreed to the cost.

Here in the US you can respond to feedback and your response will be displayed below the negative/neutral feedback left for you – don’t know whether that functionality is available worldwide. Just make it very businesslike so you don’t come off sounding like a jerk.
