Poll: Rank Your Credit Rating!

Sun Aug 12, 2007 4:40 am

It's that time, and be honest!
Let's use the following 5-tier scale, just highlight and quote it as your answer:

  • It's so great you can see it from space.
  • It's not perfect, but well above average.
  • It's average: nothing to brag about, nothing to cry about.
  • It's rather rough-around-the-edges.
  • Shhhhhh! Quiet fool, don't tell them where I live!

    Naturally, I'll go first:

...I never really even used credit until I turned 24. My goal this year was "700 in '07", for all three bureaus.

Hit my goal with both Equifax and Transunion, but still lagging in the 6s for Experion. Hopefully, will achieve and go for 800 in '08  Wink

I have good credit. Or else my credit limit wouldn't have increased.

    - It's not perfect, but well above average.

Last time I checked I was a 720 on a FICO Classic model. Remember it is not just score that is important. It's what is on the bureau that is important. A 600 beacon with a good $20,000 revolving credit line and a mortgage with a few small handful of late payments will get an auto loan before an 700 with only a $500 credit card.

Your credit LIMIT is tied to your credit rating, but it doesn't mean you're a better credit risk. In fact, the higher your credit card limit, the lower your credit rating because you're at risk for living beyond your means.

I have one credit card with a $70,000.00 limit, and still manage to pull off a 783 credit score. However, my balance is rarely over $1,000.00 and I usually dont carry a balance more than a month or so.

Last time I checked it was somewhere between a 782 and 786, depending on which agency you ask.

Oh yes, I'm not kidding. My FICO score is in the 400s. I'm really wondering why I haven't declared bankruptcy yet. Oh, right, because I need to go to credit counseling classes. Thanks Tom DeLay... not as if I'm going to be able to pay it anyway, so no, I need to shell money for credit classes and then money for bankruptcy proceedings... anyway, it's only a matter of time before my Italian citizenship application goes through, I get sworn in, and bail out of this country. Then the creditors can't touch me.

Below average, but then I have a CC for 32 grand with no spending limit, and another for 15k. I think credit scores are over rated and I won't play.

About a year ago, I took out a $10K loan to pay for part of the cost for my then new Mazda 6 and when the salesman came back to tell me I was approved, he said my credit score was (IIRC) 760, one of the highest numbers he had seen in a while. I took out the loan so I could qulilify for an additional $1000 rebate, on top of the $2500 rebate on the car itself, for a total of $3500 in rebate. I paid off the loan in January so saved a net of $600.

By the way, everyone should go at least every 12+ months to the real website for a free credit reports: www.annualcreditreport.com and check out their credit records with the big 3 companies to see if any errors and correct them. Errors can screw down your number and hurt your credit, you may pay higher interest, get lower credit lines, and so on. I had items from my father on my account (we had the same 1st names) and when I checked my parents records, they had an old car loan of mine on their records, credit cards on the wrong account and so on. I worked with the appropiate reporting agencies to make the corrections (at no charge up to 30 days).

Mine's good, but I couldn't bring myself to quote that "see it from space" line.... I owe less than twenty percent on my house and that's it... The cars are paid for and I paid cash for law school so no student loans.... I charge everything else on a cash-back card and pay it off every month so I save a couple percent on expenses...

Now that's a novel way to get out from under debt... If you're as broke as you imply, the creditors can't touch you anyway. We don't have debtor's prison in the US.....

I'll be here for at least 18more months, not sure if I'll go to Law School in Louisiana or not (hopefully not)... nor where I'll end up thereafter. If I do decide to leave this place behind, then PDX and MIA are the areas I think I'd mesh in best.

The NorthEast is/has great places to visit, but I'd sooner walk through the Third Ward at 3am with an "I'm Carrying Cash" sign... than live anywhere in the NE.

    You assume a lot.

Assuming that something will magically change because your locations changes is the most misguideded assumption of all.

Doing the same thing in a different place still does not justify expecting different results, especially in a country like Italy.
