A disturbing trend in Chinese exports; using unacceptable substitutes, carcinogenic chemicals, etc. One of the higher ups in the food chain hung himself.

On the heels of their counterpart to our FDA chief being put to death over (frankly) endangering their place in US markets.

Or does "ready! aim! fire!" in Chinese sound like "great job, Brownie?"
Happiness is not seeing another trite Ste. Maarten photo all week long.

Yep, after the head of the Chinese Food and Drug Administration was put to death because of his corruption, this toy guy did the honorable thing. Hopefully, suicides and death sentences will knock some ethics in to the Chinese culture of corruption and willingness to risk other peoples' lives and children for a few bucks.

The honorable thing would have been to produce a product without taking shortcuts in the first place. He only hung himself because he got caught

Although a factory executives in China (PRC) had killed himself for his stupid decisions and corruption, at least he admited his horrible judgement. To me, some of the top executives of Mattel here in the USA ought to resign and the company face FDA investigations. The USA executives need to face penalties including jail time as they were not doing their job to make sure the unsafe toys were not made in the first place, or had no dangerous materials in them.
The transfer of so much of toy, along with so many other product manufacturing to countries like the PRC with limited regulation and enforcement is very disturbing and harming consumers. I wonder how long it will be before Mattel and other companies in the USA will be facing financially crippling and massive class action lawsuits by consumers in the USA and elsewhere in the world for manufacturing in the PRC with it's problems and lack of regulations or enforcement. At least if the products were made in the USA or Mexico, they could have a lot more control of the production and at a lot less risk, but at much higher cost and consumer prices. There is also the fact that consumers may turn away from certain products if they are made in the PRC, fearful with justification that they may be unsafe for themselves or their children. I suspect that there may be a lot fewer toys under the Christmas tree this year from this crises.

There is no independent confirmation the guy killed himself. Maybe he realized he would be put to death within weeks anyway, so why not kill yourself in that case? Or, maybe some Chinese KGB guys went in and helped him "commit suicide" rather publicly.

NYT and BBC both consider the report of his suicide unsubstantiated rumors out of the Chinese press, which means nothing as to whether it's true or not.
