I found this and wondered if you think these are true?

I like some of them. Who would chew gum in a meeting?

Sounds about right to me! You should avoid all of those 10 things... And I guess there are more things which can ruin everything... Big grin

In a word: fluff. Must every article include a top ten? Does chewing gum really undermine the objectives of a meeting?

The advice seems pretty obvious and fairly devoid of substance. One could write a top ten list like this in his/her sleep.

Everything listed happens where I work. In fact my workplace is famous for what I call "ambush meetings" These are meetings that appear on your outlook calender with no real agenda. When something goes wrong where I work people will setup these ambush meetings. The person holding the meeting will have all his information and you, because you didn't know what the meeting was to be about in the first place, will be unprepared. If you are not careful during these meetings you will become the scapegoat.

I had a boss that used to do that and then refuse to look at any documentation that wasn't in line with her accusations. I still hate that woman.

I feel sorry for you.

Sounds like a crappy place to work due to poor upper management control.

I hope you can find someplace better in the future.

Cheers

When I worked at 7-11 you had order writer meetings for the employees ordering. Trust me when I say if you didnt forecast good or know your numbers, you were in the boonies when it came to these meetings.

Showing Up Late
I've done this once or twice. Couldn't help it though.

Sitting Silently
Most of the staff meetings I've attended, I've done this. Mostly because I really didn't have anything to say. When 90% of the staff are mental health professionals, the guy that administers the tests really doesn't have much to contribute.

Shutting Down After the Meeting
I've done this a few times as well, especially after one of those meetings where nothing of real significance is discussed at great length.

It is physically impossible to appear professional and chew gum at the same time, especially if I can HEAR you chewing gum.
