Any Jamaica Residents?

Sat Aug 18, 2007 9:15 am

Is there anyone here from Jamaica that will be staying behind to ride out hurricane Dean? If you are staying behind will you be taking pics or video? I'm looking to see if someone would be willing to keep a photo/video journal during the storm for me.

Thanks,
Indy

You are aware that this storm is killing a bunch of people as we speak, right? Why would you want to see actual death and destruction like that?

Cheers

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

That's a bit extreme no? It's an interesting sight seeing mother nature as powerful as that. Can't help human curiousity. However, my sincere condolences to the people who are in the face of the hurricanes and may all the victims RIP.

Tropical Storms/Hurricanes though very dangerous are also very interesting to experience / see. I rode out Hurricane Ivan in 2004, it was something else. Part of the roof of my house came off so I go the excitement of windows blowing in, the roaring of the wind. While at that point you think you will die, reflecting on it later you think WOW, that was an interesting experience.

This is quite a powerful storm now though at Cat4, Jamaica I wish you all the best. Make the preparations possible. After Jamaica, it may be unlucky Yucatan peninsula again.

Race car drivers get killed but people still watch the race. Hurricanes are part of reality when you live in the Caribbean and people know it. I have no interest in seeing death. I am however interested in the raw power of nature. Much like a tornado chaser in the plains. I have a weather/climate website and was looking for some footage and reports for it. I was looking for video of what 100 or even 140mph winds look like. And if someone was inclined to take such video I would hope they would put their safety first. If you are in a position where you can get video then please do so. As for a journal or whatever I was looking for a story about preparing for the storm. What did you do to secure your place? What did you have to eat or listen to? When did the power go out? What kind of sounds did you hear during the storm? Did the eye pass over your place and did you go outside during it? Did you see a hurricane hunter flying around the eye (it has happened)? When did the storm end?

Stuff like that.

Care to share?

I have some videos that are 3 years old that I took during Hurricane Ivan, if you wish to see them. No sound though, my camara was shitty at tthe time. Big grin

By the looks of in on CNN, and the Weather Channel, Jamaica is going to get hit the hardest, not to mention the outlying areas in the Carribean are getting hit quite hard.

One of my co-workers went to Jamaica this week. I hope he made it back by now.

Good luck to everyone. But also mother nature at work is interesting. I am always glued to storm chasers on the weather channel
