TSA Let Me In At TPA Today

Sun Aug 19, 2007 11:39 am

I was coming home from the apple store because I had just bought the new imac and I always stop at TPA on my way home, Well i went in for some starbucks and their was a TSA gentleman fixing his coffee with creamer and sugar, and I asked the gentleman if he would let me go through any of the security without a ticket. So her proceeded to say I have headed to airside A, and so we took the tram over, and bang i just followed him and I was in. I did not even have to go through security. this was about 8pm tonight.

Was this just luck?

The agent should be fired for something like this, completely irresponsible behavior. Alas, the union would be up in arms though. If anything, the employee would be sent to retraining and watch a video in an air conditioned room for an hour.

Havn't felt safe since the TSA was created. This is just one more nick in the chain.

I wouldn't have you out of my sight if I was that guy. Evidently he let you in because he thought you were not trouble and are not. Hope you enjoyed this one time opportunity. Do you have any pics and hows that new IMAC working?

I wouldn't go broadcasting this all over the internet.

1. It could get you in trouble

2. It could get the tub stackers of america guy in trouble.

3. It is probably not wise to make the security flaws (which are many) known to people who may not have the best of intentions.

Highly illegal. Here anybody who smuggles an person airside without a ticket or airside pass will face serious consequences, like an EU-wide ban on working om airports (the information that a person broke airport security rules will be givven to the EASA by the relevant national aviation authority and then distributed to all other EU countries).
For temporary access, you'll need a visitor's day pass, which is only valid when being escorted. The escort has to sign for the respective person. Then you can only get a day pass once a month (exception is with explicite written permission from the aviation authority, while the background check is being processed).
For any other access you'll need to go through the ten year background check, which has to be repeated every year.

Both of them would also most likely face criminal charges.

If this story is true; why would you even post it? Next thing we'll see is an investigation at TPA (somehow I guessing that someone at TSA will get wind of your post), and don't you think if they wanted to the Feds can find out who you are, and come knocking on your door? Dumb.

I am sure that the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority have reviewed the digital video of you allegedly breaching Airside A security (via the SIDA badge access) on Saturday with the aid of the TSA screener. If there was any ounce of legitimacy to your statement, you, the screener, Aviation Security Inspectors, the Federal Security Director, and the Aviation Authority Director would be involved in a full fledged investigation.

I appreciate your diligence in attracting attention.

Thanks for playing.

Safe bet. I'm willing to bet he got a phone, or knock on his door some time late yesterday, or early today... And he's in the middle of either:

A) Trying to explain why he was STUPID enough to allow a TSA officer to let him through security un-screened. (Which I still do not believe happened)

OR

B) Trying to explain to the FBI, TSA, or Department of Homeland Security why he posted such a stupid, fabrication on the internet.

Oh bliss! I'll stop by the airport for coffee!

Maybe, just maybe I'll get to hang out in the boarding areas!

Hmmm....there's a security screener there.

Maybe he'll let me go through the security checkpoint.

Wait, could it be?!

I'm on the other side of security and I didn't have to take my shoes off! Way cool!

(sarcasm off)

Indeed what luck!

Besides, the Starbucks on Airside A is better than the one in front of security! I hope you got a vente!

You're right, it's a shame the BA 777 wasn't there.

I'm sure that if you would have asked the gate agent real nicely he'd/she'd gladly taken an unticketed, unbadged and unscreened person on to a commercial aircraft.

Quoting Ffis34 (Reply 25):

I am sure that if you mentioned to the pilot you breached security he'd be more than happy to take you on one! I'd bet the reaction would be slightly different.

As for the pilot being past security, he has a company badge which allows him past any checkpoint his employer flies to. Or, he has a SIDA badge and could legally access the concourse via the door you did.

Someone needs a little time out of the gene pool!

Get a job at TPA, i wish but its a little impractical, being i live about 40 minutes out from TPA....but maybe later in life, but have a passion for business of sorts, just havent figured it out, and i think it would be difficult to combine the two, their is not to much flexibility running an airport

OK, you guys are officially nuts.

Lets assume the story is true. A guy who clearly just loves planes like you and me asked an agent a favor and managed to get around security - not through the use of any misdirection and with no intent to cause harm. And you want to prosecute him?!?!

If true, this is a monumental failure on the part of the TSA. Scream bloody murder to the government that set up and operates a clearly incompetent agency. Hold responsible the agent who callously disregarded the safety of the flying public.

Not the guy who just wanted a better view of a BA 777.

I think they both should be arrested if this event actually took place.

If not, I think moron here should get a visit from the FBI, and a nice vacation from a.net.
