US Open Thread!

Mon Aug 27, 2007 8:56 am

While I'm not going to be able to attend the Open this year ?, I will be following it very closely. Federer is going to win the men's title, that is a given. The women's draw is more open I think. I think it could very well be any one of the top ten players. If I had to choose, I think one of the Williams sisters(if they can stay focused) or Sharpova.

Just as a side note, I was watching a qualifying match (I think, sorry don't follow tennis that closely) and saw Robert Blake playing. What a mirace that is!! Glad to see him play again after all he's gone through!!

Anyway, best of luck to those in the US Open!!!!

This one should be easy for Federer. There may not be another winner unless either Rafa Nadal starts beating him in other grandslams or Federer retires.

Novak Djokovic defeated both Nadal and Federer this summer in Montreal, so I wouldn't rule him out.

Men:
1. Federer
2. Djokovic
3. Nadal

Women:
1. Henin
2. S. Williams
3. Sharapova

Sharapova has a cakewalk draw. The the big guns on the women's side just happen to be in the same half of the draw, opposite Sharapova. V. Williams doesn't seem to play well anywhere outside Wimbledon these days, Serena hasn't played all summer, Sharapova withdrew from tournaments this summer with a shoulder injury. Justine Henin is looking to be the most prepared out of all of them, and just came off a win in Toronto. The problem for Henin is that she could face S. Williams in the QF, and Serena for sure wants revenge after Henin defeated her in the QFs at both the French Open and Wimbledon this year.

James Blake is a great player to watch, and he transcends life transcends tennis, he is really an inspirational person, I really hope he can win a major.
