This is a follow up from a previous thread. Please feel free to post your night pictures.
Post Your First Night Shots (by RichPhitzwell Apr 28 2007 in Non Aviation)

Here's my first attempt a few months ago and I say it's a little too dark.  Wink

This one I took a couple of weeks ago while in Vegas and IMHO is a tad bit better.

I haven't really tried at many night shots. Here are two from the Gateway Sheraton, Toronto Airport. Not much of a skyline on this side.

In The 2nd one you can see an aircraft on final. Big grin

I'd say these are my best two by far. The last one was about a 30 second exposure, so the tips of the branches moved slighty creating what I like to think is a nice effect.

Nice shots so far, hope to see some more!  Smile

I've always wanted to take pictures like some of the people on here, but I have no clue how to hold the camera still enough. I was too sick and tired on this flight anyhow. (And blood-stained.)

Riddle pilots should recognize this one.

PS-Thanks for thinking about the fires too. They're good at keeping us away from them, and the season's about over now! Keep in mind all the fires still going down more toward your area though.

Later Dave!

Here are some of my night pics. As you can tell, I'm not too experienced. The first two were taken very soon after I got my camera almost a year ago, so I hadn't quite figured out night shots yet. They are from Homecoming at the UofA and are of the bonfire and the fireworks sequence. The other fireworks pics came out really bad, so I did not include them.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h67/FLTUS37/Night/HomecomingNight2006032.jpg

Here are some pics I took flying CLE-PHX on CO in December.

Chicago:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h67/FLTUS37/Ohio%20Vacation%2012-06/29OverflyingChicago.jpg

Wing shot on approach to PHX (dirty window):

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h67/FLTUS37/Ohio%20Vacation%2012-06/33WingandEngineonApproach.jpg

And Phoenix itself:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h67/FLTUS37/Ohio%20Vacation%2012-06/34Phoenix.jpg

These last two were taken this summer from my bedroom window at home. As you can tell, having a camera where you cannot set the shutterspeed can make lightning shots difficult.

Good to hear. Yep, always scary here when it's hot and the humidity is low like it has been around here  scared . Hoping we get some sort of rain some month.

Oh yeah, thanks for the pic myspace comment, you're the only one who cares, wahhhh. Haha.  Smile.

As you can tell, my sensor is pretty bad, and gives me a whole lot of speckling in night shots. It looks like there's little lights everywhere! I hate it.

As a point and click man, I am just happy when my night shots aren't intolerably blurry.

Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. The most pleasant place on Earth.

Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Nice, but over-shadows the picturesque grand Uzbek cities.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g271/Buck_OHara/Uzbekistan%20-%20Samarkand/S4010067.jpg

Chisinau, Moldova. Rugged and quaint. A small scattering of fine looking women live here.

I need to get laid

The command dial on my camera needs fixin', but here's what I've got from a while back (no photoshop, only cropping on one):

30-second exposure in Colorado

Spring thunderstorm in Texas

Moonrise in Colorado

Tree at night

Self-portrait in a park (3 sec. exposure...ten-second timer! Run then sit still!)

IH-35 at night

Field at night

And of course, fireworks!

Lousy quality, but this is what the Northern Lights look like from 38,000 feet (long hand-held exposure through a cockpit window really ruined any chance of a quality shot):

Big version: Width: 1200 Height: 799 File size: 302kb

A KHA 737 arriving in FWA, as seen from the I-469 overpass looking down runway 5:

Big version: Width: 1200 Height: 801 File size: 252kb

OK technically a "dawn" shot, but one of my favorites - check out the heat trail behind this 727 that departed about a minute before this shot was taken:

Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 683 File size: 107kb

Enjoy!

Been enjoying the photos in this thread, here are my contributions...

I seem to gravitate toward the water when shooting at night as I love the reflections. The first 3 were taken at the marina near my home.

The obligatory fireworks shot.

The city of Portland is noted for its many bridges, but the most beautiful one is outside of downtown and a bit off the beaten path.

Looking across the Willamette River toward downtown Portland.

Can't forget an aircraft shot.

Yes I just realised just after I posted, easy to tell by that little church style building on the right side of the river.

I have a almost identical picture taken from the same place as you somewhere.

You certainly have a great place to take pictures where you are. I hope I get out there someday.

I don't know if you mean NYC or Switzerland, but either way, yes, definitely amazing places to visit! It's funny, even though I live in New York and I go to Switzerland 3 weeks a year, I take neither one for granted. When people tell me I'm lucky to live in NY and to be able to go to Europe, I agree completely. Everyone should go to both places once in their lives.

Enough with the sappy stuff. Let's see some more pictures!

Both, although I did not know you lived in NYC. Switzerland is the most beautiful, but this is coming from a person who lives near Glacier Park...

That church looks like the one from one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's films.
