Falling Asleep In The Bath.

Tue Aug 28, 2007 6:18 pm

I was struggling to stay awake by the time I got home from work last night, following a weekend of socialising and working which left me having had about 7 hours sleep in 4 days.

I thought I'd have a bit of an early night for a change, and planned to be asleep by about 11 o'clock and hopefully sleep through till about 7-ish this morning. So, with my plans well made I decided that I'd have a bath to relax, which is a rare occurrence for me as I normally only have time to dive into the shower for a minute or two, but alas I found the time last night and dived into a bath just after 9 o'clock .......

.... and woke up 5 1/2 hours later, freezing cold and shriveled up like a prune!  Angry

To make matters worse I was wide awake by that time and didn't sleep again all night.

Has anyone else ever been so blatantly stupid as to fall asleep in the bath?

I've passed out in a bath, a shower, a hottub, etc. etc. you name it...

Not from a lack of sleep, but just mainly because I was ripped to the boobies.

Actually I have done it a few times myself.

It is so relaxing, and the heat comforts me and bam, im out like a light.

Though I haven't gone 5 hrs!

Usually I sleep for 50 minutes maybe an Hour at the most.

I rest My head against the corner so if I slip, i bang my head first which would wake me up before drowning.

Also, the numbness I get from not moving, wakes me up too.

I've fallen asleep in the bath, it was empty though, and I was pretty wasted, does that still count?  scratchchin

Could you realistically drown in a bath?..Surely as soon as you inhale some water you'd wake up?

..still, ive never fallen asleep in the bath lol

That's what happens when you live in Scotland and your bog and bath are both in the 'outhouse', next to the coal shed!  Wink

Serously, you story gave me a right laugh!

I have never kipped in the tub, full or otherwise!

And I'm pretty sure unless you're completely comatose, you can't drown!

One would think, but some people sleep so soundly that they simply slide down into the weather and never wakeup in time to realize what happened.

Same here. I've slept in a bath and in the shower. Since my tub drains when its filled, I will not drown.

Presumably he dragged the bath indoors and fillled it from the kettle in front of the roaring candle in the living room. Very Nanny Ogg.

I love baths, they're very relaxing - but I read in the bath, so I've never fallen asleep. Used to drive my family nuts when I was young and lived at home (hehe !). I think the Japanese have the best idea for baths, wash off first and then luxuriate in a giant pool for hours - bliss ! One day I shall go to Japan and read in a huge outdoor rock-lined batch. Just because I can !

I've not tried a batch before. Pray tell me how it works and where one puts the water.

Of course I'll try it if there are plenty of Geisha feeding me my scotch.

I had similar problems, especially when just sitting in the Tub with Hot water, really makes you sleepy. I dont do that anymore, dont have time and seriously it is dangerous like Springbok mentioned, so be careful.

Yes, I've already fallen asleep in my bath. Sometimes for two hours and stayed in the same position the 2 hours. As the bath tube is not long enough to fit me in my whole length, I'll hardly drown. It's nice to fall asleep in some warm water. Probably it reminds me another time of my life I've experienced more than 30 years ago...   Almost always feel at home in the water, except when it comes to breathe below the surface.

Obviously a misunderstanding of words here. Normal people "shower" standing up. By laying down it becomes a "bath", does it not?

You can drown on as little as a spoonful of water if it goes down the wrong way.

I think you would wake up though.

No. The shower is still running, now if the drain was in well, yes.

Thats funny. I usually lean my head against the wall during a shower and close my eyes. Also the radio is on and i usually stay awake because of that. I have a routine  yes

Me too.

Gotta say though, that I've fallen asleep in the tub many times. Mine is narrow, so it doesn't allow me to lean over and drown.

I have worse drowning scares from inhaling my own drool whilst I'm sleeping.

I sit down with the shower on and lean my head on the wall. The shower spray doesn't hit my head and i listen to the radio. The radio station plays a song at the same time every morning and when that song is done i get out.

Affirmative. I can't sleep when flying, and I had been really sick the day before. Had been up for somewhere between 45-50 hours, got to my hotel in Madrid, ran some water in the tub (it was -20F when I left Vermont and 83F when I landed in Madrid), climbed in, and woke up 2-3 hours later. Went out, bought some sandals, some meds, some food, came back to the hotel, and went back to sleep.

Happened again in Granada the next day. And a couple times back home in Dallas.

Fell asleep in the tub after drinking heavily, wife had run it for herself and it was still warm when I got in. Next morning, so freaking cold, all day under the covers and a comforter, did not warm up until late afternoon. Never again, the horror of the wrinkles,............
