"Castro:" Clinton/Obama Winning Ticket

HAVANA (Reuters) - Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro is tipping Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to team up and win the U.S. presidential election.

Clinton leads Obama in the race to be the Democratic nominee for the November 2008 election, and Castro said they would make a winning combination.

"The word today is that an apparently unbeatable ticket could be Hillary for president and Obama as her running mate," he wrote in an editorial column on U.S. presidents published on Tuesday by Cuba's Communist Party newspaper, Granma.

At 81, Castro has outlasted nine U.S. presidents since his 1959 revolution turned Cuba into a thorn in Washington's side by building a communist society about 90 miles offshore from the United States.

He said all U.S. presidential candidates seeking the "coveted" electoral college votes of Florida have had to demand a democratic government in Cuba to win the backing of the powerful Cuban exile community.

Clinton and Obama, both senators, called for democratic change in Cuba last week.

Castro has not appeared in public since intestinal illness forced him to hand over power to his brother Raul Castro in July last year.

It's always good to have Granma throwing their hat into the electoral ring. I'm just waiting for the CNN/Granma poll to come out.

Ouch , that is going to hurt. But not suprising really , the Democrats support a more "diplomatic" policy towards the socialists , communist ,totalitarian regimes around the world. Diplomacy would be a open path now that the US Military and the current administration have proven we are not the paper tigers Bin Laden accused us of being. Their should be more room for diplomacy in the next administration , I just wish the democrats had a better choice of candidate. I really do , I just cant vote for her , even though I am not totataly opossed to voting democrat.

Wonderful. Hillary and Obama have now been endorsed by Fidel, one of the last communist dictators left on the planet. What will be next - and endorsment from Kim Jung Il? How about Neo-Nazis? Or the Society of Columbian Drug Cartels?

For their sake, I hope Hillary and Obama tell Fidel exactly where he can put that endorsement...

How about Neo-Nazis?

None of the Bushs are running. Keep in mind Grandpa Prescot Bush was aiding those Nazis till 1944 until the feds stepped in.
Do you really think the Nazis would endorse a Black candidate?

Fidel Castro knows that Hillary and Obama will not win and that's why he said it. Florida will certainly go Republican if Clinton/Obama were the nominees and the next resident will most likely be a Republican anyway.
The next President will take the fall for Bush's failures in Iraq.

As if that wasn't enough, this Granma article, which is alledged to be the thoughts of Fidel himself, mentions that the only President who didn't endores "anti Cuban terrorism" was Jimmy Carter. I'll quote a few relevant parts:

OF all the presidents of the United States, and those who aspire to that office, I only met one who, for ethical-religious reasons, was not an accomplice to the brutal terrorism against Cuba: James Carter. That assumes, of course, another President who forbade that United States officials should be used to assassinate Cuban leaders. That was the case of Gerald Ford who replaced Nixon after the Watergate scandal. Given his irregular manner of ascending to the office, one might characterize him as a symbolic President.

...

Following the migratory crisis of 1994, we learned that Carter wanted to do something to find a solution. Clinton didn't accept it and he called Salinas de Gortari, the President of Mexico. Cuba had been the last nation to recognize his electoral victory. He had contacted him on his inauguration as the new President of Mexico.

...

The candidates are now immersed in the Florida adventure: Hillary, the Clinton successor; Obama, the popular African American candidate and several of the other 16 who, up until the present, have proposed their candidacy in both parties, with the exception of Republican Congressman Ronald Ernest Paul and the former Democratic Senator from Alaska, Maurice Robert Gravel, and the other three Democrats Dennis Kucinich, Christopher Dodd and Bill Richardson.

I don’t know what Carter said during his race to the White House. Whatever his position was, I was right when I guessed that his election could avoid a holocaust for the people of Panama, and that is just what I said to Torrijos. He established the U.S. Interests Section in Cuba and promoted an agreement about jurisdictional maritime limits. The circumstances surrounding his term prevented him from taking things any further and, in my opinion he embarked on several imperial adventures.

Gotta love Granma and their castrist propaganda.  Yeah sure

Keep in mind Clinton and Obama are teh candidates that would most likely lift the embargo, thus erode his power in Cuba.
This old, outdated embargo only helps Fidel Castro and he himself knows it.

Heh heh, one commie endorsing 2 other socialist/communists, that so typical. Remember all, the nazis were national socialists, like you know national health-care and other programs, which just means whoever pays taxes will pay for it.

The name "nazi" may have been a contraction of "national socialist", but they were anything but socialist in practice.

Really, they did not control what you did or where you went? Hitler youth, Gestapo, take charge of your life from birth to death, national health care, party leaders in charge every where, really ?

Soviet socialist republic, Komsomol or youth wing of the communist party, KGB, take charge of your life from birth to death, national health care, party leaders in charge every where, really ?

No, Nazi is the abbreviation of Nationalsozialist. And yes, they were not socialist at all. The NSDAP (Nationalsozalistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, National Socialist German Worker's Party) was a successor of sorts of the old DAP (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or German Worker's Party), which was already a right wing party and shifted further to the right once the nationalistic aspecs were introduced by Hitler and his cronies once the DAP became the NSDAP. The Nazis, and especially the party name NSDAP had nothing at all to do with either worker movements or socialistic movements, in fact they fought against socialists (and communists for that matter) and took the opportunity to ban the SPD and the German Communist Party KPD the first chance they had; the only thing that does have something to do with their name was the nationalistic aspects of their militaristic movement. Remember: they were radical right wing nationalists, not leftists like "true" socialist parties.

Uh, remember CALTECH,

Sweden:

Life expectancy/total population: 80.63 years
GDP - per capital:$32,200 (2006 est.)
Unemployment rate:5.6%
Population below poverty line:NA

Poland:

Life expectancy/total population:75.19 years
GDP - per capital:$14,300 (2006 est.)
Unemployment rate:14.9%
Population below poverty line:17%

So, while we in Sweden have a mixed economy, you can call us Nazi's all you want. But fact of the matter is we have not been in war since 1815, and we can care for our people. We are not all God, business and churches. Heja Sverige!  Wink

The way I see it, the Nazis were national/socialists until the coporal became a dictator, the SA brownshirts were a national group, many things were nationalized, which is a part of fascism, once the coporal took power.

Never called Swedes nazis, why do so many on this forum put words in to other people replies. Don't assume things. The whole nazi thing was for a certain individual who likes calling people who do not think the way he does nazis, which nazis were national socialists. Europeans to me seem to be very nationalistic of late and you do have socialist governments, right? Just making a questioning observation,....

It will take a long time for Poland to catch up to Sweden after approx 50 years of communist rule in Poland, but they are trying to over there, and you might to watch out cause the Poles might emmigrate to Sweden like they are doing to the U.K. right now, what 500.000 in the U.K.? Hey the Poles might drag your statisics down and thereby letting Poland surpass Sweden in those statistics.

Clinton/ Obama is a dream ticket - for the Republican Party !!!

Fidel is quite happy with the status quo. He also enjoys knee jerk reactions from the US when he sounds off on domestic politics.
