Ncaa Football Games On National TV This Week.

Fri Aug 31, 2007 2:32 pm

Aside from Notre Dame getting its usual 'tradition' thing-a-roo.... Which other college football games will be televised nationally this weekend? (Weekend of Aug 31st).

Does anyone know if the Washington at Sycrause game will be televised nationally?

Why should it be on national TV? Both teams are mediocre at best. Never mind that neither are ranked, both had poor records last season, and are regional players not able to pull in a national crowd.

I see it is listed as the 8PM game on ESPN. I suppose they had to put something on as a placeholder since the 8PM ABC game is Tennessee at Cal and that will pull in the viewers..

Traditionally the first weekend in December. Same goes for USC-UCLA and the various najor conference championship games.

Of course the main UF campus vs. Western Kentucky should be Dullsville as well.

Tressel came from YSU didn't he?

I'm looking forward to the Tennessee/Cal game and the UGA/OkState game...mainly because a family friend is the #2 fullback and will also be working special teams after his redshirt year last year.

Yeah he did. Everyone knows it'll be a route, but Youngstown gets probably their best payday ever, financially, which will help the school. I'm sure Tressel will try not to embarrass his old school too badly. YSU is a good, proud, tough program, but even this is asking too much of them.

I don't mind OSU playing an Ohio school once a year-it's good to keep the money among state schools. but playing THREE in one years? YSU, Akron and Kent? Come on OSU, start playing some real out-of-conference games!

Washington has made signifiant improvement from last year. Give them some credit. Same goes to Sycracuse! This is going to be a good game anyhow.

Most of your responses were anwsered earlier by others anyway. Thanks though.

UW is putrid, and will continue to be putrid under Willingham. Sorrycuse sucks too. It's only on TV since there is nothing else on tonight (Friday).

I'll be at UT-Cal tomorrow night. It ought to be a good one, though I see Cal winning it.

Yes there is but between them and ABC they will be the only networks hosting nationally televised games. NBC will only carry the ND game on a national level and while CBS has the contract with the SEC it isn't on a national basis except for really big games.

I'll give them credit when they prove it on the field. You can say they have improved tons from last year but it doesn't mean squat until they show it on the field this Fall.

What a total brain freeze on my part. It is on Friday night and not Saturday. I'm not trying to be an ass but I'm guessing that it fills some sort of obligation to get various conference teams on the TV schedule.

Hopefully I'm proven wrong but I just don't see this being a great game.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, and I respect that, but I think watching two teams who have traditionally been down can be just as good as watching two powerhouses slug it out...especially since this is the first game of the season, and perhaps one or both of these teams could have a surprising year...its when you mix the powerhouses with the down teams when you get unwatchable games...or also when its late in the season and two bad teams who are already like 2-7 or so playing each other...

Well, well, well! For you naysayers about Washington.... They beat Syracuse 42-12. It was a great game. Jake Locker played very well! I know thats just one game but it was worth watching though.

The rest of the season is what I'm more worried about. Washington has the toughest schedule in the NCAA.

And UW is still going to finish 9th or 10th in the Pac-10, so beating up on a horrible Syracuse team isn't going to help anything.

That was the worst coaching matchup, with two dolts in Willingham and Robinson, and also had the worst uniforms in Syracuse.

It sucked. It wasn't a good game. It was a snoozer.

Yeah the game was terrible last night. We started off great but then choked. Didn't help that Washington got away with
major PI on a key endzone throw. My friends and I were leaving the Carrier Dome midway in the third quarter.

Gotta hand it to the Huskies though, they turned out to be a lot better than I was anticipating. Hopefully they'll do well this season so our loss to them last night won't be too embarassing!

On the way out though some frat boys were yelling, "Only 62 days until basketball season!" At least we have a sport we are good at to look forward to, although I was hoping that the game last night would be a little closer. Still, it was fun to watch for the first quarter.

with just about 7 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Notre Dame is getting plastered by Georgia Tech, 33-3.

It's embarrassing if you are a ND fan, no doubt, to be getting creamed on national TV.

Since I'm NOT a ND fan, but one of the college FB fans who get tired of all the ND hype each year, you could say I'm pleased.  biggrin

What? Big deal if you do...look at your schedule. Watch out for Rutgers, there gonna be your toughest team. This is almost making me sick.

Western Michigan
at Marshall
at Maryland
East Carolina
at South Florida
at Syracuse
Mississippi State
at Rutgers
Louisville
at Cincinnati
UConn
Pitt

Oh, BTW, Notre Dame sucks. There offense is horrible, and there defense is worse. This will not be a very good year for them. Hopefully, they can get some things together. Whether Weis likes it or not, this and the next will be rebuilding seasons. They'll be contendors in 3 or 4 years. Right now, they need to do everything they can to get the W in next weeks game.

What they did out there was completely horrible. You say teach the O line how to block, I would start out with teaching D. Jones how to properly hand out water. Also, they need to be taught not be such moronic babies. "Gee, for like, the first time in the game, GT didn't score. We got them into a 4th and 7, what should we do next? Lets shove someone, and give GT 15 yards and a first down, then get ejected from the game. And then afterward, go cry about it."

When on defense, on every play, it seemed as if they had 6 guys out there. GT runs a simple direct snap and they get forty yards out of it. More than once. How does that even happen?

That game was terrible. Notre Dame looked awful. Gergia Tech looked pretty damn good. Who knows, maybe GT could even beat Ap. State.

I watched most of the 1st half and part of the 2nd before heading out of the house. I listened to the ND feed on Sirius (The Catholic Channel airs ND games) and was cheering for Tech (and I'm a die hard UGA fan).

UGA is looking pretty decent so far this first half.

After that failed 4th down attempt with about 11 minutes left in the 4th, ND's defense just rolled over and died.

Makes you wonder which ND team will show up at Happy Valley next week.

While Auburn pulled out a victory against Kansas State, I suspect we'll be seeing the K state QB Josh Freeman in the NFL a few years down the road.

Well, I got back from the A&M-Montana State game a few hours ago and I would have to say that that was an awesome game! 38-7 is a great outcome! And to think that Montana State led 7-0 about 4 minutes into the 1st quarter... My first Aggie football game, but I have tickets to 3 more home games for this season, Louisiana-Monroe on 15 September, Oklahoma State on October 6th, and Kansas on October 27th. Kyle Field is one hell of a place to be on game day!!! Big grin

Your giving them WAYYYY to much credit.

Merely paraphrasing what Allen Pinkett said on the ND radio feed.

I was pulling for K-State so I could rib my boss about it. At least I get to give my co-worker that's a ND fan some grief......

He's a great talent...and he played pretty well for his irst start. Despite the hundreds of yards lost due to penalties by K-State in the game, I cannot wait for the season to come up. Defense looked solid, especially the run defense.
