Football: Carolina School Win Streek Halted At 109

Mon Sep 03, 2007 12:42 am

While checking out some of the North Carolina newspapers for their take on App State's upset of Michigan, I stumbled on this story. Talk about a winning streak of epic proportions-109 games in a row! That's almost 11 seasons.

And it took an Ohio school to stop it. Great football played here in Ohio.  Big grin

That definitely makes the Georgia high school record look meek by comparison. The current holder of the GA streak, Buford H.S., won 47 straight (Three straight 15-0 seasons [back to back to back State Champions in their classification, 1 as A Champs, then 2 as AA Champs] then lost the third game of the 2004 season). They broke the record set the season before by my Alma Mater, Parkview H.S., who won 46 games in a row (Three straight 15-0 seasons, three straight State Champs in the top classification, AAAAA, then lost the second game of the 2003 season. What made it worse was that it was to our biggest rival, who we beat in the AAAAA finals the season before.).

103 games is quite impressive.

How about just in CLE? The Strongsville - Eds game was nice to watch, and in other news, Padua slapped N. Olmsted, so all is good (ignores Walsh game coming up in 2 weeks....)

Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

My high school, South Kitsap, has the WA State record of play-off appearances at 24 consecutive years, I believe.

I think De La Salle up in northern CA might hold the all time record. "The team, currently coached by Bob Ladouceur, owned a record 151 game winning streak from 1992 to 2005"

Now granted they recruit like any good private California high school does (and will also deny that fact to their deaths) while the public schools are forbidden from doing the same.

When I was in high school, we sooooo wanted to play those guys so bad! We also wanted to play against Mater Dei as well (another high school, I think in Southern California).

Wow, to be on a team that from the time you joined as a freshman to the time you graduated, you never knew what it was like to lose. Harsh reality than kicks in if they go on to play in college. But to say that you never lost a game in high school is really amazing...

It's really funny and ironic you mentioned Mater Dei because that is exactly the school I was referring to when I talked about them denying recruiting. Mater Dei HS is in Santa Ana in a majorly Hispanic community (which Santa Ana is as a whole pretty much) yet you go on campus or to their games and there is a rather large white and black population, hmmm... interesting. I live about 20 minutes from Mater Dei in Irvine and my sister played them all the time in high school. So I am very familiar with both them and Santa Margarita HS.

Mater Dei has been on the top 5 in the high school football polls (USAToday) in the 90's alot! They were number 1 for a few years in a row when I was in high school.

The highest my high school ever gotten on that poll was in 1992 (I think...) and placed 12th. When I played, we won the state championship and placed 23rd in the nation in that same poll. I think Mater Dei was 3rd.
