Democrats: Any Scandals Brewing?

Tue Sep 04, 2007 10:40 am

Granted, it's been a bad year or so for the GOP. They paid the price last year, Mark Foley and Larry Craig didn't help, and who knows what's next.

So what about the Democrats? Who's in trouble and/or being investigated for wrongdoing? Besides the machine politics of Chicago/Cook County, IL...and then the House representative who uses his freezer as a bank, who else is in trouble?

Int'l. A-netters: any scandals brewing in your area?

Discuss.

Nobody's paying attention to the Democrats because it's so much fun watching the GOP self-destruct. This coming election is almost over... except for the shouting. With the lame duck Bush record as an anchor on the party, the Republicans might as well forget about winning this one.

IMHO

Referring to Daley? The quick answer to that one is "who cares"?

Well maybe one of these days the democrats will actually get a little annoyed that Rep. Jefferson is still drawing a paycheck, but I doubt it.

Once the democrats occupy the White House, the scandals will come. Even though they control Congress, the GOP is still the dominant party in the government, so that's where all the scandal attention focuses.

Of course the rash of GOP scandals has put them under an additional magnifying glass.

Aside from waiting for Hillary to be outed, I don't see any big scandals upcoming.

You forgot to mention Senator David Vitter that was exposed by the D.C. Madame. He likes to wear diapers as a part of his sexual act.
Yep he is a Republican too.

Well, Iowa state senator (and Democrat ... and gay to boot!) Matt McCoy is under some fire for apparently trying to "extort" a former business partner out of a figure between $1800-$2000 by taking the money from the business' account ... or something like that.

Nevermind the "investigation" has probably cost twenty times that.

Congressmen Rick Renzi (R) of Arizona's 1st District is probably the next one to be in hot water. He being investigated by several different federal agencies regarding his financial dealings..He's already decided against re-election, and quit all of his committee assignments.

I am quite sure there are many that could be found, especially as to lobbying. As to sexual crimes and scandals, unless it involves a dead hooker or a live child, then forget about it.
I do think that the states are where many scandals can be found in both parties. That Democrats controlled much of the top state and city offices in the State of Louisiana long before, during and since Hurricane Katrina and their part in the failures to help prevent many deaths should be a much bigger scandal. In New Jersey, there are some issues as to Gov. Corzine as to his dating a major union leader who's membership includes state employees, as well as arranging jobs for a relative.

Corzine is a dog, I can't stand that guy myself. New Jersey hasn't had a governor worth anything since Tom Kean left office, but I actually thought Richard Codey did a nice job after McGreevey resigned. "New Jersey and You, Purr-fect togethah."

I grew up in NJ and my entire family lives there, so I'm allowed to hate Corzine.

The Republicans perform a balancing act. They've limited themselves by rejecting alternative lifestyles, accepting only one basic religious philosophy, and tolerating only those like themselves. The Democrats essentially accept whatever the Republicans don't consider a "normal" part of their limited subset.

As a result, Republicans have to make sure they walk a very straight (no pun intended) and narrow (narrow-minded, that is) path. Any wavering is hypocrisy (at least) and/or scandal (at most). A senator who has a record of supporting gay rights is much more likely to survive a bathroom blowjob story than an old-fashioned, small-minded Republican.

Essentially? They have to accept that or face extinction as a political party. They don't dare judge anyone and that is why their ranks are filled with the people they are. If you have no standards (meaning the DNC) your only retort is to complain about those that do.

I don't normally listen to Rush Limbaugh but today I was listening to the local host before him discuss the new program allowing Mexican truck drivers to go beyond the 25 mile limit and after Paul Harvey and the local news on came Rush so I decided to give a listen. He had one thing dead on. Sen. Craig could have easily kept his job. All he had to do was come out and say he was switching party affiliation to the democrats and he would have been safe from further attack.

If we do its that old right-wing thing again ! ...

Lets face it the Democrats are much better at sniffing out Scandal than the GOP and capitalizing on it. I personally hope they find every slimy bit of news on all and any in the GOP . I dont want anyone from the GOP safe from exposure if they are doing anything stupid. Our Representatives in the GOP better get their shit together.

Anyone who thinks the Democratic party is above board is either ignorant, myopic, or a party apologist. And I say that as a long-standing member of the Republican party who thinks the party has gone to the dogs over the past few years, especially at the White House level, and especially since Iraq and Katrina.

Of course there are those of us who would agree that the same principle should be applied on BOTH sides of the aisle.

I agree , but right now the GOP is in no position to start jamming anyone. My dad always told me, you worry about taking of your business... the rest will fall into place. The GOP needs to clean house and make a statement . Let the DEMS hide in the freezer so to speak.
