Reckless Driving

Sat Sep 08, 2007 9:34 am

Yesterday as I was driving down the road, the girl one car ahead in the passing in a white late model is talking on her cell and a blue Saturn Vue drives up and honks the horn. This car backed off and would tail gate her for 3 seconds while honking the horn and she repeated this process 4 times. The girl who was on her cell takes of after her and got her plates. Did the lady in the Blue Saturn have this right. I have never seen this happen till now and was afraid something like this could resolve in much deadlier consequence's for the victim. What are everyones thoughts on this?

OK, let's analyze this:

Yesterday as I was driving down the road, the girl one car ahead in the passing in a white late model is talking on her cell

A stupid goose is blocking the fast lane while yapping into her cell phone, not caring that there are others that would like to use the road.

A stupid, aggressive cow want to force herself trough, not caring that she's endangering everybody around.

That's the part I didn't understand.

What are everyones thoughts on this?

1. Cell phone ban while driving is long overdue.
2. Ban on driving in left lane except passing (or full highway) is long overdue.
3. Perhaps it would be a good idea to subject the applicants to psychological tests before issuing the driver's licence.
4. These incidents will occur repeatedly, because it's much more difficult to catch this kind of aggressive behaviour than, let's say, speeding. So the police will repeat it's incantation "Speed kills" (Oversimplification is never a good idea) and will continue catching all the dangerous offenders driving 10 mph over the limit while these really dangerous "drivers" will keep on driving until they kill somebody.

I meant to say takes off after her to get her plates.

I'd call it a tie. If she got the plate number, what was the phone-caller going to do - tell the police the other driver was tail-gating her while she was talking on the phone and blocking the passing lane?

Quoting WildcatYXU (Reply 2):
"Speed kills" (Oversimplification is never a good idea)

checkmark  Driving at high speed may be dangerous but tail-gating while driving at high speed is much more dangerous.  wideeyed

Are you asking if she had the right to repeatedly drive too close and honk the horn? I wouldn't have thought so, certainly not in the UK. She could have tried flashing her lights and/or honking the horn while keeping a safe distance. If that hadn't worked, I don't think there's a lot else she had the right to do (assuming US laws are similar to UK laws).

I encounter this kind of thing usually more then once a day.

Someone in left lane or middle lane going slower than other traffic - person A. Person B wants to get past person A, but person A thinks they are going fast enough, and there is no way in hell person B is going to pass them. Person A will speed up to prevent person B from passing person A. Person B usually reacts badly towards person A, resulting in a variety of things, usually anywhere from tailgating person A to seeing how fast person A wants to go to prevent person B from passing.

There are plenty of other type of stupid driving, but this one is the most common in my book. The keep to right unless passing law should be brought up in places that don't have it, and enforced where it exists. The only state I know of that it exists for all vehicles is New Jersey, but I've never really seen them enforce it.

Oh, and am I guilty of being an asshole on the road, you betcha! It would be hard to get anywhere if I wasn't.
