"Kid Nation" premiered this evening. If you recall, this is the show that got peoples' thongs in a twist because CBS was going to "abandon" 40 kids in the desert to bring "Lord of the Flies" to reality TV. I usually don't pay much attention to primetime broadcast TV, especially reality shows, but I thought it was amazingly good.
From what I saw, adults were present at all times. They were simply behind the scenes. There was an adult-led town meeting every two days in which kids could opt out and go home. You could also see loads of evidence of ongoing adult intervention in the way the "ghost town" was organized and set up.
I used to be a teacher, so I'm naturally interested in watching children succeed and use their brains for things other than MMORPGs. This is one reality series I'm going to watch.
BTW, they're already taking applications for Kid Nation 2. Some of you kids should go for it.
