Anyone Of Us Could Be Dead, And We Not Know It

Sat Sep 29, 2007 2:11 am

Sometimes I think about this, but how would any of us know if, say, when a user disappears for a long time and never re-surfaces, that they haven't died?

I know it's a morbid thought, but with thousands of users, it's bound to have happened before in a.net's history.

So some of us will just turn up missing, but actually be dead. I mean, my family doesn't know how active I am on this website, and probably wouldn't think of leaving a "UAL Signing Off!" message.

So any speculation on who's gone to the other side?

Gotta admit, it's quite an interesting question....

I am always hoping for the better, that maybe they have lost interest and moved on to something else, rather than being dead.

Ultimately we will all die but I hope we all have lots of time left.

Honestly, and I don't mean to sound harsh, but why should I give a shit if a.net knows if I've died or not? Those who are on a.net that I'm friendly with off the forums would know by other means (they are in my email address book, they read my blog etc.). The absolute last thing that I would want my wife or my family to be concerned with if I were to meet an untimely demise would be notification to an Internet forum.

Well there are two people who might be of some concern. One is Udo (???) he used to be very active on this website, giving lots of great information, he was from Germany anyone know what happen to him? The other was I forget his screen name as he was on before I came by quite a while, but he had come down with Cancer and had apparently died from the illness. Anyone with any details please add away.

Didn't his name have something to do with an MD-80? I remember some guy who had cancer that loved the MD-80's and I think it was part of his profile.

Andrew Scott (Willo) unfortunately passed away from cancer. His profile can still be found through mine. Shame, a really nice guy.

This has happened before. I posted about a user who we knew was sick with cancer, but who died within just a few days of his last post.

Well, if anything happens I have a couple of friends who live close to me who are also anet members, but I have contributed nothing of importance on anet, I dont care if I am mentioned here.

I was just wondering this the other day, albeit on a related side note. How many airliners.net members have been killed in aviation related accidents, specifically plane crashes? Apart from the berk who flew his Cessna into a building (photo above in thread), I can't think of any? I just thought it would go to show how safe aviation is, considering the majority of people on this site fly a lot more than the average person.

There was a member from YHM who wrote approximately a year ago that he's withdrawing from the a-net because of brain tumour treatment. Unfortunately, I don't remember his username...

My mom knows this site has brought me joy over the last... um.... how ever long I have been posting. She knows she will need to post something if I go before her. But, UAL747 is right: how would any of us know if another memeber has passed? The two that I wonder what happened to them are Ihadapheo and Turbolet. Turbolet moved to Brno, I think and I have not heard from him since. I think it was his mom was not well. Pheo's daughter was having some health issues and has not posted for some time. I hope they are both well.

I think everyone has that list, caused by political mudslinging threads on non-av.

That would be interesting to know, as I've met about 3-4 anetters and I keep contact with them.
