Voices That Blow Your Mind

Sat Oct 20, 2007 12:32 pm

Lately I've stated listening to a band from Australia called George again. The singer from this band, Katie Noonan, has a voice that just puts shivers up my spine, particularly her high notes. Have a listen:

Please excuse the soap opera stuff on the clip, it was the only place I could get the song. Just be glad that you can only see them acting and can't here the crap coming out of their mouths..

Also, I have to add a piece she did on a music trivia show.

Enjoy

I think the world's best voice belongs to Christina Aguilera. Some of her older stuff isn't the real type of music I like, but her new stuff is good and her voice just blows me away every time I hear it.

Here's an older one.

And some newer stuff.

Oh my, there are so many I can think of who are incredibly talented, not to mention underrated. I know exactly what you mean about the shivers down the spine though, there are just a few singers who, for me, can do this;

Andrea Dätwyler of Swiss band Lunatica

Marcela Bovio, Mexican born singer associated with several acts, namely Stream of Passion

Vibeke Stene, formerly the lead of Tristania. Undoubtedly she would be my favourite, such a beautiful voice;

'Deadlands' from the last album Illumination. This is the best YouTube video I could find of it.

Great voice? Bruce Dickinson has quite the range and stamina.

Nails on a chalkboard? Lynn Samuels former WABC radio personality, and Susan Estrich, from whereever the hell she comes from.

Tarja Turunen, too bad she seemed to have gotten greedy.

And Simone Simmons.

And she's hot(and a redhead).

She's never quite done it for me, but then again all of the songs I've heard her sing have been in German, so that won't have helped! Apocalyptica rock though!

Too true, although the new singer is excellent, it will never again be the true Nightwish without Tarja - I don't think there's ever been another voice like hers.

Oh yes, she's hot for sure  Wink Have you watched the studio recordings on YouTube - they are very good (not sure if you posted one, as I can't see any of the YouTube vids for some reason  Confused ) The only thing is, she's very flat, I don't mean flat chested, but when it comes to going for the high notes she just can't make it and the attempts to try on some of the earlier tracks from The Phantom Agony were a little painful. She makes an awesome mezzo soprano though! Big grin

I digress, that girl(forgot her name) sounds too much like Shania Twain and doesn't fit with the type of music they usually play, IHMO.

She fits in with the type of music well enough, she just will never be able to match the voice of Tarja because it was a one in a million, so to speak. It is a slight different direction, but as long as Tuomas is still writing their songs, the band will retain their identity I think.

On the contrary, Tristania have just released demos from their new singer, who they want to take them in a completely different direction. That really is a shame and, to my ears, she sounds more like a pop singer.  Sad

I would have to say the best voice I've heard recently is this dude - "The Ram", a Train Manager on Virgin Trains who myself and MYT332 had the pleasure of travelling with yesterday. A true legend in my opinion, even if I am still a little freaked out by his pronunciation of Manchesssssterrrrrrrrrr.

Maybe not quite you were meaning by "blow your mind" but hilarious all the same.
