The World Series Thread

Thu Oct 25, 2007 12:36 am

With Game 1 about to start, time to get the ball rolling. Rockies and Red Sox for all the marbles.

I'm going to be bold and say Rockies in 4.  biggrin

I would say you're crazy!! Rockies might win but not in 4, especially since they haven't played in over a week.

Feel sorry for you east coast fans, starting games at 8:37pm is just stupid..

About that, baseball needs to get rid of the second off-day in between the CS and the World Series. Want the extra day to have some more flexibility in your rotation? Don't go seven games.

Anyway, I hope for a Rockies win in either 4 or 6, but Chowder-Town is currently leading 2-0.

By the way, I may hate the Sox, but their fan website (www.bostondirtdogs.com) has some seriously funny stuff on it from time to time:

Rox
Sox
Rox on Fox
Sox on Fox
Rox vs. Sox on Fox
Sox vs. Rox on Fox
Sox vs. Rox in Coors Bandbox

Sox have Jocks
Rox have Jocks
Jocks in Field or Batter's Box
Jocks with Money Box of Stocks
Papi strong as Wild Ox

Fox ex-Jocks sit in Press Box
Listen to Tim McCarver's Vox!
The insanity he Talks and Squawks
Joe Buck oughtta clean his Clocks

Rox beat Sox
Sox beat Rox

No one claims the games are Locks
And on some wood a Nation Knocks
But if the Rox Outfox the Sox
Or Gagne Walks or Beckett Balks
It surely would cause Mocks and Shocks

Yeah, well, I was at a bar and every time I looked up at the screen the Red Sox had scored another run (no-one was even cheering anymore). I guess that's what having the bases loaded does for you.

If the Rockies win this thing then they won't do it less than 6 games as Beckett is going to win both his starts. Its a toss up if Colorado can beat Schilling but I think they can beat Dice-K.

My picks are Chowds in 6 if they use a 4 man rotation and in 5 if Beckett pitches game 4.

Yeah, you can't help but notice there is a difference of maturity levels between the two teams. But, having said that, both teams have a lot of talent and deserve to be there. But, watching Becket, the guy rawked!!

First of all, we heard you twice the first time. That's been said ad infinitum. Secondly, MLB has players from all over the world. Thirdly, it is not feasible to play a 162-game schedule that includes trips to, for example, Japan, Korea, the Dominican Republic, or dare I say it, Cuba. Your point is taken, but it so happens that nearly all of the best players in the world are here in MLB. Some may choose to stay in a country such as Japan to play in their home country, but the nature of the game (162 games in ~180 days) precludes a global schedule.

Wow, not a single post following Game 2??

Or is there a thread I missed somewhere?

Anyway, much different game than Game 1....but the Sox bullpen lived up to its regular season reputation. Okajima and Papelbon are just a pleasure to watch.

Of course, the Rockies' bullpen was quite good as well, but the damage had been done off of starter Jiminez.

Now, on to Colorado, and big decision time for the Sox. Ortiz, Lowell, or Youkilis......who gets to warm the bench?

Based on Lowell and Youkilis' postseason thusfar, and Ortiz' sore knee, I'd be willing to try benching Ortiz, at least for Game 3. He can always pinch-hit if we need the bat. Lowell's defense at 3rd base is too valuable, and the Pedroia and Youkilis duo has been hitting the crap outta the ball.

Yup....1975, 1978, 1986, 2003... plus all those years in between when we came oh so close. October 2, 1978 my 13th birthday.. my Sox won't break my heart on this day... I race home from school in time to see Bucky Dent drive one into the Green Monsters net over Yaz's head. 1986.... yea, OK.... enough said there. 2003..? Here we go again. Even 2004 as I pack to fly home to Maine I listen to the score grow to 19-8..... 19-8.. !!

For you true Sox fans if you have not seen it, go find the HBO DVD Special 'Reverse the Curse of the Bambino'. The best line from the DVD when describing the Red Sox pummling of the Yankees in ALCS Game 7..." It was like that part in 'A Christmas Story' when Ralphie decides he's just not going to take it anymore, and goes out and beats the crap out of Scott Farcuse"

Quoting Pyrex (Reply 43):

Why is that? I don't understand that rule.

The Red Sox are the American League Champions. In the American League Pitchers do not bat. They use whats called the DH (Designated Hitter) The Rockies are the National League Champions. In the National League Pitchers hit, so Boston looses the DH, which position David Ortiz plays. So the decision Boston must make... Keep things as they are and bench Ortiz who has a hot bat, but has a bad knee. Play Ortiz on 1st base and bench Youk who has a hot bat and is great on the field. I say give Papi a rest and keep Youk in.

Easy, sit Big Papi down. The big decisions are in Clint Hurdle's hands now anyway.

In the National League Pitchers hit, so Boston looses the DH, which position David Ortiz plays.

Does that mean Dice-K will have to bat? Is he any good at it?

Rockies - woohoo ! I support them because they're the only team I've ever seen play (well, and the Royals obviously) - it was as at Coors Field in Denver.

Plus my bruv supports the Red Sox (he's so sad, his number plate on his car is SOX NUT) - so I wish to annoy him.

Hey, I got to go to the game last night! What a thrill. Although I've been to many Sox games, this is the first time I've ever been to the World Series. Lots of energy last night.

It was funny, even though the victory was razor thin, it seemed like the Sox really controlled the game. I never felt worried about the outcome of the game.

Not if he gives up 5 runs in the first inning.  Wink

I have no idea. I guess we'll find out tomorrow night.
