College Football - Week 10

Wed Oct 31, 2007 10:39 pm

Discuss week 10's games here.

So, for me, I cannot wait for Saturday to come. ASU vs. Oregon at Autzen! College Gameday is coming for the second time in a row! My prediction:

38-14 Oregon.

No way. You may be biased and all, but come on, 38-14...you really think it's going to be that much of a blowout? These are two top tier teams...I say 20-17.

I can't wait to see how my Kansas Jayhawks do. I'll be there, 5th row, with my season tickets. Woo hoo.

No question this is the biggest game out west. Alot with depend on the condition of ASU's qb Carpenter thumb which got banged up on a hand off last week. Hoping for a great game..

Well it is Autzen,"Where great teams come to die"! Its gotta be way intimidating!  bigthumbsup

Not to mention Oregon has had a harder schedule than the Sun Devils.

It was measured at 127 Decibels in the crowd at last weeks USC game (24-17 W), louder than a jet on takeoff. Gotta be hard to hear each other all there, plus Rudy Carpenter's thumb being all messed up, that cant help. I'm just hoping its gonna be all Oregon this game!

Btw, I do like ASU nice to see a team like that look so determined, reminds me of Golden State during last years NBA playoffs.

I expect Ohio State will defeat Wisconsin.
Wouldn't be surprised if OSU struggles though. I hope OSU doesn't take their opponents too lightly and think they'll be able to roll over Michigan in two weeks as well.

Guess Norte Dame will win game #2 against Navy this week and finally go Wisconsin.

Oregon has a great team.

Autzen is one of the toughest places to play.

Having said that, I think ASU comes away with a win late in the 4th.

Prediction: ASU 31, Oregon 24.

Gotta make up for all the years Nebraska made them look bad..opening for a new head coach in Lincoln?

Looks like Wisconsin was tied with OSU going into the 4th, but they apparently thought that was good enough as Ohio State outscored them 21-0 in the 4th.

Kansas just put up point #76.

Holy shit. Nebraska sucks, or Kansas is that good. Maybe they'll go for 80+ points?

I hope so, Nebraska is arrogant and watching them lose is about as good as watching Notre Shame or USC lose.

Kansas was on a 100+ point pace for a lot of the game, but as to be expected in a blowout of this proportion, the pace slowed down a lot in the 4th...they should be able to top 80 though on this last drive...

Hey folks:

Just left the Kansas-Nebraska game and on my way home to Kansas City with the girlfriend driving (I'm on the CrackBerry). That game was incredible. At first people were pretty worried, what with Nebraska leading us at the beginning, but then it just became like shooting fish in a barrel. The question of if Kansas is that good or if Nebraska is that bad...it's a bit of both. Nebraska is pretty bad this year, no doubt about it. However, Kansas has now won AT Kansas State (no easy feat), and AT Texas A&M (note the 12th man), so Kansas is pretty good. I don't think we will go undefeated, one look at our old friend (er, horrible Satan's spawn) Mizzou says that could be the one, but even Iowa State (who won today vs. K-State) or Oklahoma State could be the one...it can often be when you least expect it, so I go into each game saying we will lose, including todays.

The defense of KU was pretty bad, especially in the first half. It got a bit better later, but we still gave up an awful amount of points. I DO still hope KU stays under the spotlight, I think that actually gives our players motivation.

The final score of the Kansas-Nebraska game sounds like something more out of Allen Fieldhouse than Memorial Stadium on the KU campus.

I swear, LSU's gonna give me a heart attack...at least I already see a cardiologist every six months.

The Tigers just closed out another heartstopping win, this one 41-34 over Alabama, scoring a touchdown with just over a minute remaining. They overcame a number of stupid penalties and an offense that was ineffective during the middle part of the game.

Of course the fact that the Tigers are now 1-0 against Nick Saban is another thing to cheer about.

The Buckeyes made a bit-time statement in the second half against Wisconsin. After leading at half 10-3, Wisconsin came out and scored two impressive TD's, OSU said "enough" and scored the next 28 points, and blew away the Badgers. Good teams find a way to put it together when faced with adversity, and the Bucks did that today. They'll stay, deservedly at #1.

And WTF with Nebraska? 76 points? Anyone think that old Coach Tom could come out of retirement to try and resurrect that program next year? That's what they need. The Callahan experiment is officially a disaster. As is the Weis experiment at Notre Dame. Ty Willingham has to be smiling to himself after the way he was treated there.

3 weeks to the game: OSU-Michigan.

No.

There is a Nebraska alum that works at my ramp that mentioned a name. He's a former Nebraska alum and player - I can't recall his name. Also mentioned was Tom Rathman as O-coordinator.

Probably Turner Gill, who currently is the coach of the University at Buffalo...another name that I see getting mentioned somewhat less frequently than Gill's as Callahan's replacement is Craig Bohl, who played at Nebraska and was on their coaching staff for a number of years...he's currently the head coach at North Dakota State...

I think right now, there's 4 teams in the mix for the BCS title game: Ohio State, LSU, Oregon and Kansas. Possibly Oklahoma. Oregon and Kansas really opened some eyes yesterday, with very impressive victories. The BCS is going to be very interesting today, to see how it shakes out.

Hearing my alma mater (Kansas) in the National Championship picture is still odd to me...but I personally think Oklahoma has a better chance than us. I still say it will be Ohio State vs. Oregon in the National Championship, but at the KU game yesterday, I did see representatives from Sugar, Fiesta, and either Rose or Orange, I forget which.

If you follow CollegeBCS.com, Jerry Palm's site...the top 5 are pretty much what has been stated here. OSU, LSU, Oregon, Kansas, and Oklahoma. My thoughts are below on the top 5. The cupcakes listed are going by Palm's/BCS rankings of all teams in the Bowl Division - remember all teams are rated in the BCS, most sites just don't do the full listing.

OSU should beat Illinois next week and then has to beat Michigan in Ann Arbor. Shouldn't be a problem. Cupcakes on their schedule include D1-AA Youngstown St, Akron, Minnesota, and Kent State. Of course Big 10 doesn't have a championship game, so they luck out any upset there.

LSU has La Tech next week then Ole Miss and Arkansas. Arkansas is really the only tripping point, eh nevermind. LOL Cupcakes on their schedule are Middle Tenn St, Tulane, and La Tech. Then they have the SEC championship game. If they winout, I would except them to jump OSU in the computers - polls will probably hold them back unless OSU loses.

Oregon has Arizona, UCLA, and Oregon St left...UCLA may be a tripping point, but we'll see. No major cupcakes on their schedule except maybe Washington St and Arizona. PAC 10 is championship gameless as well (unless i'm mistaken)...so their road isn't as hard as LSU, but stronger than OSU.

Kansas...who would have thought KU would be here. Next up Oklahoma St, then Iowa St and Mizzou. Tough tough road for them. Iowa State should be a win. Oklahoma St and Missouri both have defenses that can kill Kansas. Will not be shocked to see them lose one or both of these. If they win out, they'll likely face Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game which will be fun to watch two friends battle it out. Their cupcakes this season have been SE Louisiana, Toledo (they really need to fire their coach and get back to business), Florida Int'l, Baylor, and Iowa St. Easiest schedule of the Top 5 which brings cause for concern considering their next 3, possibly 4 games. If they can win out and lose only to Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game, they should still be BCS bound.

Oklahoma continues to play great at home, and crappy on the road. They have Baylor at home this week and then they are in Lubbock agaist Texas Tech next week. Thay may be a little rough, but if the defense shows up they can win. Oklahoma State is then in Norman this year and that is anyones guess. Should be a win, but very close. Cupcakes this year include North Texas, Utah St (the worst in the division), Iowa State, and Baylor. If they win out they have a Top 10 team in the Big 12 title game against either Missouri or Kansas. I don't think it will be enough to jump anyone else without some losses, but we'll see.

Doubt it. If OSU wins out, they'll be the #1 in the BCS, as the AP and ESPN/USAToday rankings now hold more weight. There's no way those polls put LSU ahead of OSU if the status quo remains.

And I said "doubt it", meaning they will not jump OSU in the polls. Again, the polls carry more weight now, and OSU, if the status quo remains, will be #1 in both major polls, and that alone shold keep them in the top spot. I know everyone here is in love with the SEC and hates OSU's guts, but let's be realistic here. If the status quo remains, most likely we have an OSU-LSU matchup for the title.

Let me rephrase...I can see LSU jump to #1 in the computers, but not jump OSU in the human polls or the overall BCS. I don't consider the BCS to be the "computers" since they only make up a fraction of it.

I'd like to see Oregon-OSU in the title game. Might be a rehash of last year's title game, could OSU deal with the Oregon speed?

I think KU will win their next 2 games, but the Mizzou game is going to be a good one. OU probably will win out, and them facing each other in the BXII title game is going to be a good one.

I still think OSU could lose to Michigan. Michigan is a different team than the one that looked like roadkill in the first part of the year.

Last year, the Bucks were the favorite, and got beat. No one thought UF could win that game. Now, the shoe's on the other foot, despite the fact they're #1. So, again, keep doubting them.
