Miami is a fantastic place in the winter. Great weather. The State of Florida needs some rain but we dont expect to get any soon as the winter is the dry season. Temperatures should be great. It could get a little bit cold but cold to some one from Miami is fall weather to most people. The water should be a nice temp too since Miami is on the Gulfstream.
Hotel Victor is a very nice hotel. Great choice and great locating! You wont need a car to do anything on Miami Beach with that location. At night Miami Beach is where you want to be. Nice place to have dinner is Lincoln road which starts at 17th and Washington Ave. Decent restaurants, stores and great people watching. Also Ocean Drive will have some nice restaurants too. Miami Beach is a nice place to relax in the afternoon and party at night. You can tell just by the traffic patterns, in the day its steady amount of traffic. But from 00:00-03:30 its bumper to bumper traffic on the main roads. Lots of clubs and bars to go too in the area.
As for other sites to see. Downtown Miami is interesting place to stop in for 2 hours or so. You where in Miami 7 years ago you wont recognize the city any more. Its going through the 2nd largest building boom in the world after Dubai and visting Downtown you will be able to see that. Coral Gables is a nice area, and are some nice stores to go to there if you want to go shopping.
Coconut Grove area at night is nice. Its a college type atmosphere with alot more bars than clubs, very laided back unlike South Beach. Downtown Miami also has a nice warehouse night club area, not many tourist visit this area and most tourist that stop by think its to dangerous of an area which is really is not.
Viscaya mansion is a nice place to see for a hour or two in the day time. Also there is Everglades National Park the most diverse eco-system in the world. There is Biscayne National Park a large Coral Reef if you like snorkeling. Metro Zoo one of the larger zoo's in the country. Miami Seaquarium, Jungle Island, also Jungle Island is on Watson Island a great spot to see the largest passenger ships in the world leave the Port of Miami. Biscayne Market Place in Downtown. You could always try to catch a Miami Heat game if they are playing while you are in town.
Miami is a great place, weather should be nice, it will be crowded, expect alot of traffic and very rude drivers and drivers who dont know how to drive at all along with ALOT of street construction. But people really dont know how to drive in this city there will be people going 50mph in the left lane and 85mph in the right lane, its a mixed of many different driving types so just drive carefully. Try to avoid US1 (Biscayne Blvd) between NE65st-96st. Only one lane each way and one of the lanes is an old sidewalk. I am saying this because this road is one of the main roads in the city. In the none tourist areas just use common sense and you should be fine, Miami does has its bad areas with high crime rates but there is no reason for tourist to be going in those areas. If you find yourself lost go east. East will always land you into a nicer area of town no matter what part of the city you are in.
New York is also a great place, but you are going in December which is nice time but it might be a bit cold.
So have fun and be prepared to have fun at night and relax during the day in Miami.
