Well, as the thread title implies- is it time for the BCS to go in favor of a playoff system in college football?
My opinion is it should be a tournament with the top 16 teams in the country invited. I think It's easier to figure out the top 16 teams and then let the best 2 decide for themselves who should be in the Championship game. The structure would work similar to March Madness for NCAA basketball, but with 4 rounds instead of 6 (just like the NFL, but no team gets a first round by). The teams would play each other based on national rankings (1-16, 2-15, 3-14, etc.) in the first round. This way, even if the team that should be Number 1 isn't ranked number 1, they should still be able to rise to the top throughout the playoff system and win the national title.
I think this system would be far more exciting, and would actually make some of the games for teams fighting for the bottom rankings (14-15-16) going into that final week exciting, rather than it only being down to a couple teams. Obviously every system has it's flaws, and the team that gets ranked 17th could say they got screwed, but no system is perfect.
Or rather than rankings, use the winners from each conference (ACC, SEC, Big-10, Big 12, Pac-10, etc.) and have a a national playoff system from there. Thoughts?
So is there anyone out there who favors the BCS System over a playoff system?
