So What Is Your Favorite Thanksgiving Item?

Sun Nov 18, 2007 5:04 pm

So what is everybody's favorite thing to eat during Thanksgiving? And if you have any oddities that you serve, what may they be?

My favorite stuffing. Homemade stuffing with gravy makes everything great.

In observance of Deer season, by Dad though it would be nice to have a change from Turkey to Venison, which is fine by me.

Sure, but what was your favorite thing to eat?

My Favorite Thanksgiving treat has nothing to do with dinner. My mom makes fantastic homemade cinnamon rolls. She makes them for Christmas and Easter too. I like them better than anything else we eat the entire day. I usually fly to STL early on Thanksgiving morning and by the time I get to my mom and dad's the rolls are just coming out of the oven.

My second favorite is mom's stuffing. I usually eat a couple of helpings of that all by itself.

That sound great. The stuff my mom makes has Parmesan cheese in it.

Favorite: The champers, of course!  champagne

Oddity: Hot potato salad. We always added vinegar, white onion, chopped egg, and parsley to the mashed potatoes at the holidays. No idea why, but it just isn't Thanksgiving or Christmas without it. It's not everyone's cup of tea, so I always make regular mashers for guests to choose from.

Very True. The turkey, stuffing, potatoes, pumpkin pie, and this year I think we're also having asparagus. Delicious!!

That is a top favorite of mine too. My mom always makes great crust and that is such an important part of any pie. When I was a kid she would make me an extra crust and I would eat it like a cookie. I didn't eat all at once, but a few days I was able to enjoy the crust.

same here! my mom makes incredible crusts. No store-bought crust crap.

my favorite is the pumkin pie, too... with whipped cream on top. Home whipped, too. Buy the heavy cream, and whip it, adding just a touch of sugar. mmm. Delicious.

Note to self: Issue immediate fatwah on hot potato salad. Unacceptible.

Cranberry sauce. Homemade or canned, doesn't matter.

I like smashed potatoes mixed with unsalted butter, black pepper, and finely chopped white and green scallions.

A pox upon you, sir! Snarfing up the hot potato salad others won't eat is the perfect way to sop up more of that delicious homemade turkey gravy.  yummy

YUMM. Sounds good Chef Westy.  yummy

Don't listen to JGPH1A, his fatwahs don't hurt too badly. Plus all this talk of chicken stuffing makes them less dangerous, yet be careful as they are filled with dangerous gaseous substances reeking of cheap French wine  yuck   snooty

My aunt makes these AMAZING pies for Thanksgiving. Also my grandma makes a good cranberry sauce from scratch.

Saddly enough, my family no longer serves turkey at Thanksgiving dinner. We always serve some form of beef (sorry, no steaks). They found prepping turkey to be too time consuming and I've heard rumors a whole turkey landed on my aunt's cat, killing the poor thing.  embarrassed

Now I will need to find a Deli nearby to grab some turkey to make a nice turkey club sandwich.  ashamed   cry   boxedin
