Walt Disney Movies, Non Animated-question

Mon Nov 19, 2007 1:47 am

Ran across a pair of movies that I understand are by Disney.

Haunted Mansion and Roving Mars.

Can anyone comment if they were any good?

Trying to buy a few gifts for a fastidious brother who has it all and loves films.

Didn't they make a Disneyland ride out of the first one.

Never heard of the second one.

Frankly I still think that Disney needs to appologize to all aviation fans and aircraft historians for destroying no less then 9 B-29 frames to make, "Last Flight of Noah's Arc"

Uhmmm....I'm pretty sure the movie was based on the ride since the movie is only a few years old.

Skip the movie...not good. Don't know the other one.

The ride is WAAYY better than this poor excuse of a Eddie Murphy vehicle. Stick to Pirates of the Caribbean.

Roving Mars

This is much more documentary in nature. Pretty cool, though, if that's your sort of thing.

Old back when Elliott Gould had a career-1980. Also had Ricky Schroder in it (I think this was pre-silver spoons)

The B-29's where a bunch of old ones that ended up on the Target Range at China Lake. I do note that "FIFI" was one that was also recovered at the same time, but was not sacrificed for the film.

...for getting rid of Delta Dreamflight. I miss that ride!

Thanks for the tips. Both sound lousy.

Yeah, too bad they got rid of it. Odd, considering, well, isn't DL the official carrier of Disneyworld?

Wait a minute...is Roving Mars related to that SPACE ride over at Epcot? That just came to me for some reason.

Was that after they did that parady ride on "The Simpsons" that was sponsered by Eastern? Everything was marked in Hockey Stick paint and everything.

It used to be. Delta took over the "Official Airline of the Walt Disney World Resort" title from Eastern Airlines (which had held the title ever since the resort opened in 1971) in 1987 or -8 (right before Eastern's bankruptcy...) but the contract was only for 10 years and DL did not renew it in 1996, which is why for the last two years of it's existence, Dreamflight was known as "Take Flight". The show building is now the home of the "Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin", which, while entertaining and interactive, doesn't hold the same visceral thrill for me that the ride car tilting back as it entered a smoke-filled room with revving engine noise and spinning "fan blades". It has to be experienced to be understood.

No, not really. Misson: Space *does* go to Mars, but there's no real connection between the attraction and the IMAX film. However, there used to be a ride in Tomorrowland called Mission to Mars (which, for the original Disneyland version, was sponsored by McDonnell-Douglas--neat, huh?  Smile ) and there was a film with the same title which was produced by Touchstone Pictures, a Walt Disney Company imprint. So, there's that...

And here it is. Go about 2:56 into the clip and you'll know *exactly* what I'm talking about!
