Halogen Desk Lamp Or LED Desk Lamp?

Wed Nov 21, 2007 10:25 pm

I'm looking for a lamp for my desk. I want a lamp that will give a more day light- light if you understand that? lol......

And no, the Sun is not an option.

Kind regards!

I dont know much about LED, but halogen bulbs get very hot very fast....to the point of being fire hazards.....dosome research before you buy.

Go LED. They offer a very good light source and have very low voltage draw. They'll also last an eternity.

Are you sure that is voltage, or could it be current?

I have a halogen light that is recessed under the cabinets above my desk along the whole length at home. It provides great light, I'm not too sure about the LED's though.

Should have been current. LEDs can provide whatever amount of light is needed. I would imagine that LEDs for interior use would produce a softer light than those intended for outdoors use. LEDs used for vehicle lighting can be very bright, even in broad daylight. Here in Tucson, Arizona the Tucson Fire Department and many of the surrounding fire departments have switched completely over from strobe and halogen based emergency lighting systems to LED lighting.

I have a compact flourescent in my desk lamp, gives off a much warmer light. Don't care for alot of those pale "daylight" lamps. Just my .02 cents.

LEDs can also give off a pretty "warm" light-just have to pick out the right one. The one thing that they will not do is generate a massive amount of heat.

LED lights are ok if you're going to do a pelvic exam.  mischievous

But incandescent & halogen lights are much nicer looking. Several companies now offer halogens in a 'daylight' output.

Go LED, cooler, energy efficient and safe around kids and pets. Another less costly option is to consider full spectrum fluorescent sunlight bulbs. Hope this helps.

Also, halogen bulbs will burn out and can sometimes be tricky to find the right ones for desk lamps. LEDs last a very very long time. also, halogens can heat up an entire room fairly quickly- LEDs do not make much heat.

I would say go with the LED.

This is the one that a large chaine of hotels has in its CBR hotel. the one at the bottom of the page. I am going to get some the next time I need to replace my office lamp. It gave good light, and looks good too.

LEDs deteriorate as well, just gradually by losing brightness instead of suddenly burning out.

I just recently bought a LED lamp from Argos. Does the trick pretty well, let's me read my books and notes etc on my desk with ease. Would be slightly better if it was a bit taller but for the price its pretty descent.

I have LED Big grin Got it from Taiwan and these past 7 years, I only had to change my bulb once and it was because I broke it =.= heh. I (literally) got burnt by a halogen lamp once.
