College Football - Week 12

Fri Nov 23, 2007 7:43 pm

Quite a entertaining game on now, Nebraska-Colorado, I'm sure our own USAFHummer is there.  Wink

Anyways, they just got 2 picks in a row, (one of them a Pick 6), and Colorado is up 38-35 at the moment.

Cool games today - My predictions

LSU vs. Arkansas - Arkansas

Boise State vs. Hawaii - Boise State

Texas vs. Texas A&M - Texas

Agreed, Nebraska has just been killing themselves coming outta the lockeroom at halftime with 2 quick INTs and a blocked punt setting up socres for Colorado.

Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

I'm gonna choose Hawai'i. We would have beat them last two times if it weren't for a ridiculous amount of special teams errors.

Aloha Stadium is gonna be rocking. I got my uncle's prime seats on the 50 yard line. I can't contain myself.

GO WARRIORS!!!

Look for the "Green Out" and the free Ti Leaves they will be passing out to the 1st 30,000 fans in to Aloha Stadium. It's gonna be a great game!!

Well after last night we know that Arizona State isn't ready for prime time...Watching LSU/Arkansas, and the Hogs are giving LSU fits, leading by 7 with less than 3 minutes to go. I'm sure Aloha Stadium will be rocking tonight, personally I think Hawaii/Boise State is to close to call..

Someone must have gave Arkansas a energy bar, two plays for a TD in the 2nd OT..Lets see if the defense can stop LSU ..Looks like a 3rd OT is pending unless the Hogs, can come up with something special.

50-48. Did you see in the last huddle that the QB was talking to the receiver to whom he would throw? I called it to a guy here at work and pointed to the receiver (at the bottom of the screen). Obviously, the CB didn't need the video feed we all saw.

Just a little over an hour for Hawaii v. Boise State; undefeated vs 1-loss. If Hawaii wins they have a shot for the Sugar Bowl, again it would be great for college football, much like what Boise State did last year.

I really would like to see a Big 12 team in the national title game, but it is possible that the Big 12 championship game could kill it. That game has had a history of killing hopes over the years.

By tomorrow, either Kansas or Missouri will be alone in the Big 12 of hoping for a shot at the title. That team will have to play Oklahoma, and it will not be easy. If Oklahoma wins, then the whole Big 12 is out of the picture. It really is annoying that some conferences have to have a playoff game while others do not. Like you say, neither Ohio State or West Virginia have to take on the risk of playing an extra game before it is decided which bowl they get. I hope the two contenders for the national title game get in there because they won, not because others lost. It makes for an exciting game when it works out that way. I really hope it is either KU(my first choice) or Missouri playing West Virginia, but I will not hold my breath.

I doubt they get to the Rose Bowl, and if they do, it wouldn't end nicely. They may be the best team in their conference, but that's because the rest of the teams are unranked and don't put up much of a fight. Most other conferences have a few ranked teams and much tougher schedules. It should be those teams that play for the title.

I still remember K-State vs. Texas A&M from years back. A&M had a couple of stunners back then, IIRC.

If it's KU or Mizzou vs. WV for the title, and OSU blanks their opponent in the Rose Bowl, it'll be another stink about "who's the champion" all over again. I wouldn't be much disapponted (perhaps not much surprised) if the coaches pulled another Tom Osborne and vote against the BCS winner like they did to Michigan a decade ago.

I think the easy way to solve it is to get all conferences to hold title games. You take the #1 and #2 team in your conference and play a game once the schedule is done. You don't always have to have divisions to hold a title game...but it does make it easier.  Smile

It also brings up a point...why should a team who has won 11 games go to the title game ahead of someone who has won 12 or 13? Ah well...tomorrow will help clear things up even more.

Yep...spent the morning freezing my ass off in the 20 degree weather of Boulder today, but it was well worth it!

The game certainly seemed to flip-flop back and forth for a while...we went up 17-7 in the first quarter, but Nebraska stormed back and by halftime was up 35-24...their offense was clicking and moving at will, and our defense could not stop them...at halftime, I was worried that we would get blown out on our own home field again...however, the third quarter was a complete reversal of fortune as Nebraska basically fell apart...Ganz, their QB (who will be a force next year for them), threw a pick-six and then on their next possession, threw another pick...our offense started to click, and we basically had the game in hand by the fourth quarter...unfortunately, we gave up two late and meaningless touchdowns to Nebraska, which made the final score 65-51...but in reality it was more of a blowout than the score would suggest...

Since my graduation is less than a month away, this was the last game I will see at Folsom Field as a student...certainly an amazing way to go out!! Here's to a bowl berth for the Buffs...

The SEC never fails to provide competitive football, no matter who wins...and no matter how many OT's it takes.....btw, it looks like the SEC will have at least eight teams in bowl games, and possibly nine (of twelve total).

In that vein, the LSU/Tennessee SEC championship game next Saturday will determine who plays (likely) Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.

Count me among those who'd like to see a championship game in both the Big-10 and the Pac-10.

Why would you want a championship game in the Pac-10. Of all the major (BCS) conferences, its the only one where all the schools play each other. 9 league games.. Besides neither the Big 10 or Pac 10 have enough teams to allow for a championship games per the NCAA.

Right LSU 45 Mississippi St 0 thats competitive, didn't Alabama rout Tennessee...Georgia by 25 over Auburn..in short a few games weren't competitive.

If the Big 10 would ever get their act together and add a 12th team and get rid of that stupid logo with the 11 burined in the 10 they would have it. The Pac 10 is a ways off because I can't see what teams they would add to take them to 12. The choices are slim out west given the current conference alignments and the lack of big name cache with the likes of UC-Davis or Fresno State and distance to Hawaii.

The only teams the PAC-10 could reasonably add are Hawaii and UC-Davis, just because of their academics, and UC-Davis is a ways off because they just joined D-1 from D-2. Any Pac-10 expansion will be in about 10 years or so.

Well I'm thinking Missouri wins tonight, so this is what the Top 10 in the BCS should look like...

1. Missouri - might be 2nd since computers don't like them...6th.
2. WVU
3. OSU
4. LSU
5. Georgia
6. Kansas
7. VaTech
8. Oklahoma
9. USC
10. Florida

LSU is going to be strong in the computers still, so they won't fall far. If the human polls punish them more, then they'll be 5th or 6th. Kansas may or may not fall that far if they lose.

Ohio State still is not a lock for the BCS title game. Again, it all comes down to the computers and such and how much movement in the human polls. Losing a game right now doesn't mean you'll fall out of the title race completely. Look at Oklahoma in 2004(?) when they lost the Big 12 title game, but the computers kept them in the national title game.

The biggest issue right now could be that in the Big 12 Championship Game next weekend, if Oklahoma beats the winner of tonight's Kansas-Missouri game, it will likely set up a West Virginia versus Ohio State matchup. And Ohio State--known to be vulnerable to any team with a "spread" offense--will be a big underdog to West Virginia, probably the best team in college football that runs the "spread" offense.

Right now I'd say that is going to be Missouri up 14-0 in the 3rd and they just picked off the ball. Looks like Kansas has turned out to be the paper dragon I've been saying they were. Hopefully that will still be true in another quarter and a half.

Just throwing this out there as a conversation piece...could Boise State and Nevada been convinced to jump the WAC and join the Pac-10? Then the Pac-12 could be split into two divisions and a championship game held. What requirements would have to be met...enrollment size, academic concerns, etc?

Both of these schools couldn't afford to compete in the Pac-10..Boise had to fly commerical to the islands. Remember when Hawkins was head coach, he wasn't happy with the lack of money spent on football at BSU apparently there was one trip they bused to SLC before boarding a jet. Nevada is no-way, facilities aren't large enough, and they can't recruit at level to be successful at the higher level.

True...it is like watching paint dry...though while it doesn't mean a whole bunch in the scheme of things (at least outside the state of Alabama), it is more competitive (even suck games can be competitive) than the more important Mizzou/Kansas game.

And yes, this SEC homer is watching the Mizzou/Kansas game  wink

Btw, this is the first time I watched Mizzou this year, and they look pretty darn good.

This Alabama-Auburn game nearly three quarters old is about as exciting as paint dry.

I shudder to say this but I'm watching the Kansas-Mizzou game instead of the Bama-Auburn snoozer. I gave it the half and it was too much defense holding back craptacular offenses.

I wonder what Nick Satan will compare this loss to (if they lose) since he's already tossed out 9/11. Perhaps the Holocaust or maybe the Spanish Inquisition?

DeltaGator, you realize we'll be labeled as traitors for skipping out on an SEC game...somehow I think we'll be able to bear up under the onslaught that's bound to come  wink

Btw, Tebow looked superb today...

We'll be ok. I just couldn't bear to watch Saban prowl the sidelines. And this Big12 game has actually gotten pretty good though it does look like Mizzou will win.

Thanks. I'm probably a bit biased but he seems to me to be THE guy for the Heisman. Even in the three losses the team has had this year he's played good unlike McFadden who had some piss poor games. I just have a feeling they will give it to a senior since some folks will just assume he'll be great for another two years (which he will...at least 1 more.)

Tom's BCS scenario: methinks OSU may end up regretting the fact they don't have a conference championship game coming up.....with #3 West Virginia winning today, they should jump to #1...Mizzou/OSU #2, the other #3, and Oklahoma #4. WV should now be in the BCS championship...their opponent should be the winner of Mizzou/Oklahoma next Saturday. Buckeye fans can now book seats for Pasadena (not a bad consolation prize).
