Cheapest Way To Canada (ex NYC/BOS/WAS)

Mon Nov 26, 2007 12:01 am

Hi,

I have a few days (Dec 13th,14th,15th,most of 16th) free in NYC.

I would like to spend a night in Canada somewhere, as I've not been.

Can anyone recommend a cheap carrier / means of getting to Canada ex NYC, or potentially BOS / WAS as I can get to either quite easily. Rather not Greyhound, due to the journey time.

I dont mind Toronto, Quebec, Montreal, or even the opposite; somewhere small, quaint. I'm just after a night in Canada.

Any advise greatly appreciated.

AC can get you from LGA to YYZ for under $300 CAD, taxes in... not a bad deal.

Edit: Alternatively, you could rent a car and drive to Montreal, southern Quebec, or Eastern Ontario in 6 hours or less.

You know the gear is up and locked when it takes full throttle to taxi to the terminal.

Well first of all, as far as going to Canada goes you can see f*** all in one day. Seen Montreal? Seen Toronto? Thats nice, but they are quite different from say Newfoundland or Alberta or the Yukon, and so on. So really you saw Montreal or Toronto, not Canada.

But that aside, there are many ways to get to Canada, the best way is probably just shop around untill you find something that sounds like a decent deal. Maybe flying is best. Maybe the bus is best. But there are lots of ways.

Have fun in Canada, but make sure to come back and see more some time  wave

Thanks for the replies so far.

I can get some good fares to BUF from JFK, which is fine for me. How does it work when you get there; is it far/easy to get across the border?

I don't think that Chinatown Bus companies travel to Canada. They do mainly MA-PA-NY-DC routes.

They are really cheap mode of transport, but their safety is questioned quite a lot. But than again, if you pay $15 per ticket, don't expect much.

Hey Swiftski,

why not travel to Niagara Falls? I mean, it is close to BUF, you can cross to Canada, see the Falls from better perspective and you can spend a night there as well. That way you can say that you have been to Canada.

From an experience and what others said here crossing to Canada may not be the fastest thing. The line may be long and it usually takes a long time. Expect same on entering US.

Cheers,
Andrej

That's what I was thinking, I'd say that's my best bet so far.

I fly to NYC from YYZ regularly on business. AC & AA fares generally match to the day, with fares rising within 2 weeks of departure. AC has a better schedule. For LGA/BOS travel.

CO however generally has the lowest fares (particularly since C$ parity) which also hold the soonest to departure. Your cheapest bet from the NYC area hence is CO.

My consistent observation thru 2007.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.
