Toys For Tots....not At The Post Office In CT

Thu Nov 29, 2007 6:01 pm

This is just obnoxious. A bunch of legal over-thinkers pulling toys for tots bins at CT Post Offices.

The union was officially informed by letter, two weeks after being told the Toys for Tots drive was a go. The only reason they were given for the sudden reversal was that it's a matter of a legal opinion. Employees can still donate but they cannot solicit customers.

"We've never had a complaint in 15 years so when they about a legal opinion, I suppose the legal opinion has to come from a complaint but there has been none, there is no underlying labor-management dispute," Dirzius said.

That's really, really strange. Especially since it's state-specific - post offices are Federal, so I'm not sure who'd be telling them they couldn't offer the donation boxes in CT.

I am not sure if this is the same thing but I think i know why this happened. If you let one charity do its thing in your building then other charities will sue for equal representation. When my dad ran a company the United Way always wanted to come in and solicit donations. He refused them permission on the grounds that if he let the United Way into his company then he would have to let all the other charities in. That being said I think Toys for Tots should be allowed in the post office and let the lawyers work out any problems.

That's insane and if a charity sued me for access to my property I'd sue them for every penny they had on hand and send the proceeds to an alternative charity (after forcing my lawyer to do the work pro-bono).

The lawsuit happy nature of our nation makes tort-reform ever more necessary.
Is my Pan Am ticket to the moon still good?
