How Much Does It Rain Where You Live?

Fri Nov 30, 2007 4:14 pm

Today, this morning it started in L.A after 2years. The rainy season is finally coming back. Well I hope it's coming back. So how frequently does it rain where you live?

Not as much as it used to ..I live in the South of France -not to far from Arles and the Camargue Natural Parc.
Since June we only had some very short thunderstorms and not enough rain.

http://www.eaufrance.fr/docs/bsh/bsh0803/cartedefi.htm

the red-areas are the ones with the biggest deficit in rain..

Here in Sweden it rains pretty much. Sometimes it can be a really bad and rainy weather for over one week´.

Man, traffic slows to a damn crawl when it rains here. And not because there's a traffic jam!

At least we should have some nice, clear days coming up.

Not quite 2 years...it was raining the one time I was there in April of 2006.

Only I could visit Los Angeles on one of it's rare rainy days. If y'all needed me to come back so it would rain again, you should have said something! Big grin

As for how much it rains here- Not e-bloody-nough! I live in Alabama!

I think it's opposite ends of the spectrum though...we get light rain for nine months of the year, and you guys get occasional torrential downpours, right? (Katrina notwithstanding.  Sad )

When I lived in the Del Norte County in Northern California, parts of the county would get over 100 inches a year, one develops web feet living up there.

We have all kinds of rain here.....like my favourite, horizontal turbo-sleet, the kind of stuff that stops you breathing, which is probably a good thing because you'd drown if you did.

It's only rained a couple of times this year so far....the first time was from May to October, and it's raining now.

I'm 25 miles east of you. Instead of the drizzle, we get actual rain.

According to Sperling's best places:

Seattle, WA, gets 35.9 inches of rain per year in 155 precipitation days.
Snoqualmie, WA gets 61.1 inches of rain per year in 186 precipitation days.

US average is 36.6 inches of rain in 101 precipitation days.

That is really high. When we was over Christmas in LA last year it was not sooo hot. But it was still really hot for me compared to Sweden. When I returned that winter to Sweden it was like a shock for me when we arrived in ARN. I got chesty immediately.

Off the top of my head, we get between 2500mm and 4000mm of rain per year where I live, with it raining one day in two. I live between Plymouth on the sea, and Dartmoor, so we get a lot of inclement weather!

Tell me about it. The 405 past SNA this morning was a crawl. Any slower and we'd have been going backwards. Now I've got the joy of a drive up to Chatsworth later this afternoon. Middle of the day should be fine, but it's the 3pm+ return traffic that is depressing me.

Ouch. I hate driving up to the Valley. Sorta depresses me for some reason.

But yeah, luckily, my commute is 6 miles, all on surface streets. But driving down Hawthorne Blvd. this morning, all the traffic was going about 30 mph. And there was no one in front of them.

So strange to me.

Same up here in PRC, today it got all foggy and there's a slight drizzle going on, though I wouldn't quite call it a storm really...

By tomorrow it'll be clear in a million though.

Here in YYC, we get a fair bit of rain. Our rainy month(s) are usually April, May and June, though sometimes August is on-and-off rain. It also rains on occasion in October and November, until it dips below freezing and turns to snow or freezing rain.  grumpy

I think the worst rain we ever had was June 2005, when I was in grade 9. It rained so much that parts of Calgary flooded (particularly the Elbow River in Mission/Roxboro). Heck, even in my part of the city, Temple, our basement flooded (probably about 2-3 inches of water), and we're something like 20 miles away from anything resembling a river or body of moving water! It was crazy.

Summer 2004, on the other hand, was just non-stop rain and clouds. The temperature rarely got above 20°C and we even saw a little tiny bit of snow(!) in late August.

Hope that gives you a good read,
Cheers,
Nik

Its currently 12:34 AM in PRC and the rain/wind has been pounding us continually since 9pmish, not even the worst monsoon storm was like this in the summer. This reminds more of the type of weather you'd see in a weak tropical storm.

Very interesting considering the past 3 months there hasn't been a single significant cloud up here, then suddenly BOOM clouds all over the place.

Here in Sierra Vista (SE Arizona) we have been getting lots of rain over the past few days. Last night it was reported that we had 90 MPH winds in the area. Most of the road signs are down, shingles are all over the place, and a couple of people have lost their roofs.
