Dammit I Broke My Phone!(I Think)

Sun Dec 02, 2007 4:49 am

So I recently bought a Nokia N95, for those that dont know it is a pretty expensive piece of equipment. I've had it for a week and a half. Last night I went to my friends house, got drunk and went to bed on a couch. Turns out during the night at some point I threw up on the floor next to the couch(dont remember doing it). Problem is that the phone was next to the couch, right in the middle of the "puddle". My friend had used it and just put it next to the couch before I threw up. It had all night to soak up the pizza, beer and vodka. Now there's some pretty good "water" damage. It didnt turn on all day but I just got it to turn on right now, the lens and sensor on the camera are all fogged up with tiny droplets on the inside, the LCD screen has water on the inside about 40% of the area. The slider is harder to slide, cuz there's stuff in between. Anyone know if the camera and LCD screen will dry up eventually? AHHHHHHH!

Most important thing, DO NOT TRY TO SWITCH ON YOUR PHONE
If you can, get some T9 screws and open up the phone and put it under a light.

Just a heads up, liquid is metabolized much quicker than food is, so typically if you're not eating while drinking, nothing is being soaked up. Sorry about your phone...

yea it turned on earlier, but I turned it back off....why not turn it on??

Either way I'm using a hairdryer right now to dry it

Haha, well I always eat a lot before I drink. I know not to drink on an empty stomach.

Because you can short circuit your phone and void your warranty on it because it is water damaged.

Take the battery off and put your phone in a bowl of rice...It will dry it out

You should also remove the battery if possible so there is no voltage in the device at all.

A rescue would involve complete disassembly, thorough cleansing and after that carefully drying it again. If you don't feel up to it mechanically, let somebody else do it for you.

No guarantees, but anything less will probably at best leave it smelly and semi-damaged...
