Most Underrated NFL Players

Tue Dec 04, 2007 1:20 am

There is already a thread on overrated players, so here is the opposite one.

David Garrard. The Jags QB has quietly put together an excellent game after being Byron Leftwich's understudy several years ago. Currently the third highest rated passer in the NFL.

DeMeco Ryans. 2nd most tackles in the NFL last year as a rookie and 3rd most currently this year and yet no one knows his name.

Hines Ward has to be up there. He's rewriting the Steelers history books as his career goes on, including TD receptions which was just set by him last night, 64...

I totally agree, and this has been true his whole career. The crazy thing is that he may well have been a better Quarterback than Wideout

I don't remember if I ever saw him throw a pass in the NFL. I know Randle El did -- the date was 2-5-2006.  Smile

Oh yeah, and again in week/game 8 that year against the Browns...

I think he is a great player, but I don't think he is 'under-rated'. Everyone knows him, but does not talk as much about him because you have had T.O., Keyshwn, and Moss making asses of themselves on a regular basis and stealing the press.

You do have a point there, although TO and Moss still steal the press most of the time, of course for different reasons, but nonetheless...

Joshua Cribbs, KR for the Browns.

Everyone talks, and rightly so, about the greatness of Devin Hester as a KR. He's earned it. But Cribbs is right up there with him. He averages 33 yards a return. If he doesn't set up good field position with a return, teams are pooch-kicking, and thereby giving one of the most potent offenses in the game marvelous field position. And he's still learning the game, which is scary.

He, like Hester, is a game-changer, simply by returning kicks.

Welcome to the Pro Bowl, Kent State grad.  Smile

Plus, when he's in the news, it's for shit like getting a manicure.  Wink

Do they have to be current? If not then I'll throw out the name of Jim Jensen from the Dolphins many a moon ago. A hell of a player, great work ethic, and a team leader. Great guy!

He has attempted 2 and completed one. As a true freshman at Georgia, he took over at QB when the starter was injured and threw for over 400 yards in the Peach Bowl. He was also a star QB in high school.

I agree about Dwayne Bowe and David Garrard - absolutely! Wes Welker...I don't think he's so underrated anymore. A few weeks ago he was one of the top pickups in Fantasy Football...people know him now, and know he's damn good.

My addition - Adrian Peterson OF THE BEARS. I have been watching him for a while now as a diehard Bears fan and kept hoping he would get the starting job after Thomas Jones left over that joke of a football player Cedric Benson. Last week, my dream came true. That a boy.
