New Deadliest Catch Season Is Comming Up

Sun Dec 09, 2007 3:09 am

For all you die hard Deadliest Catch fans, a new season is coming in April. According to this blog:http://blogs.discovery.com/deadliest_catch/, the Hansen's will be competing with the Skaars. In addition, new boats will also be filmed. My question: How can new boats enter when the quota is set by the IFQ when they decommission some? Well, this season looks to be great.

That's easy, they're probably new to filming, not crabbing.
Where are all of my respected members going?

That's what I would think. I'm sure there are more boats out there than what the Discovery station films. I have a feeling they film the most interesting boats. It also seems that the boats that they film on also have a connection via their skippers, they all seem to know each other really well and play jokes on one another.

Sig, Edger and the Northwestern Crew are great, defiantly my favorite boat on this show. Glad to hear a new season is coming, I still watch most of the re-runs anyhow.

Every time I see it on the menu. Without a doubt. There's a restaurant near me that serves Alaskan King Crab with a half Lobster and an 8 oz Fillet Minion. Favorite place to eat in the world.

I was a bit surprised to hear there was a 4th season. I thought last year was the last one.

Sig's reputation has gone to squat here. He has signed a contract with Gobal Fisheries that is the single largest Russian King Crab Importer. The company also has had some legal problems with the russian goverment over illegal exports

The same company tried to get Capt's John and Phil to also plug the russian crab but they refused....Good for them.

http://www.adn.com/money/industries/...shing/story/9452706p-9364225c.html

So if you see Sig's mug on a box of King Crab at Wal-Mart, it is russian not Alaskan.

Tonight actually, company x-mas party....unfortunately somebody oversalted it.

Yup, but it isn't as easy to find as it was back in the early 1980's.

Great stuff. I generally prefer lobster to crab, but King is great. Of course, king crabs aren't actually crabs.

Comming? Dude, with those spelling skills you might want to join a crab boat.

It is always amazing to me that some of the Greenhorns they pick have next to zero work ethic, some think it is easy money until they up against the Bering Sea and Captains who don't do daycare. I guess I am old school that when you sign on you do what is expected of you and work through the rough stuff.
I would help you but it is not in the contract

My apologies.

Is Blake returning on the Maverick? If so, this is going to be one funny season.

Hiram is hilarious, definately one of my favorite crabbers (as long as he's not hungry, anyway)

Quoting L-188 (Reply 5):

Not so sure about that - nobody hauls in the crab like Sig. I like Sig's style - he's a hardass but still gives a damn about his crew. He also doesn't screw around with the safety of the ship like some of the other captains do.

Quoting Jafa39 (Reply 3):

Alaskan, Opies, I love them both. It's really cool to see where they come from!

Quoting MCOflyer (Reply 10):

IMO Blake is a whiney bitch... he didn't get the promotion so he threw a hissyfit and walked out. I know I wouldn't rehire him unless he has had a real change in attitude. He's a good guy and a good crabber, but his ego needs to be adjusted.

I have the first two seasons on DVD, and am looking for season 3 to be released soon. My schedule makes it difficult to catch a TV show on a regular basis.

I thought he Captained for King Crab with the Maverick.

Sig is a good Captain as he knows a lot and what to do in certain situations. The Hillstrands fish in whatever weather compared to Sig and his bunch. The Colburns do not take chances as the Wizard rides low making it very venerable. Each Captain has his/her own way for fishing and whether we like it or not, some times the best thing to do is pray for their safety in those rough conditions.

He made the news last summer Halibut fishing in Southeast Alaska. He was running one of the boats that responded to a cruise ship that ran aground.

Many times. Back in my line service days, some of the bigger Gulfstreams, Challengers, Falcons, etc. used to come in with the HUGE legs on fresh trays. Half the time the covers would be on them still and it was free game. I have King Crab nowadays but I've never had that quality since.

I just don't know how anyone can go into such a job with that kind of attitude. What they do is so incredibly dangerous and requires a real toughness and respect for the conditions around them. There is a reason they are paid so well.

Depending on your area, Costco sells Alaskan King Crab legs. They range between 12-15$/lb. I usually smoke them over and then dip with Basil/Garlic drawn butter.
With my ex girlfriend, I knew that if I was in the doghouse, I could make that up with some wine and a few episode of Deadliest Catch and I would be out of the doghouse by the morning.
I personally think Sig is the best because of his work ethic. He doesn't give a rats a.. what you have going on with you. You signed up for a job, you need money and I need money. When you slack off, I don't get paid. So get to work and complain about it on your time, not mine......

Well it could be but I know a month ago I was catering a party and bought 25 pounds of the expensive stuff and the box said product of Alaska.....
But who knows and I'm sure they do get some from Russia to offset the high need around the world.
Also considering that Russia and Alaska are neighbors being connected by water, I'm sure some Russia crabs have defected to America to be put heated and dipped in butter by me....

A lot of the Russian Crab is from the Barents Sea, the Commies transplanted them back in the 1950's and since they have no predators in that area they boomed.
