The Simpsons Vs Family Guy

Mon Dec 10, 2007 6:39 pm

Which one do you like better?

For me it used to be simpons but for some reasons they seem to have lost that edge! I still watch it all the time but if I have the option of watching family guy at the same time....I"ll pick family guy. What r ur thoughts?

Both are great, but I feel the humour and stories in The Simpsons are getting a bit old, so I'm leaning more towards Family Guy now.

Well, heres my take:
Both are different shows, aimed at different audiences and both are great.
Personally, I'll now take Family Guy over The Simpsons, mainly because i find its style of humor a little more abrupt and in your face. The newer episodes of The Simpsons (before the film) seemed all to similar and mainly focused on Homer and Marge marital problems, however the newer series (after the film) seems to show signs of progress and the new episodes are good.
Still, providing either show is available to watch, I'm not fussed.

Same. I grew up watching the Simpsons, since about 1991 I've been watching them, but nowadays Family Guy is the better program by a long shot in my opinion.

Much as I hate to say it, I think the Simpsons is getting a little stale. I love Family Guy, as it is very quick humour, and often very near the knuckle.

Definitely think both shows are hilarious, but right now I'd have to say Family Guy is funnier. The Simpson's is great but I think they were at their prime back in the mid-90's (like when Conan O'Brien was one of the writers). The episodes over the past 5-10 years haven't been quite as original and I feel like they keep reusing jokes from their classic episodes. I still watch the new ones, but I have to admit, I enjoy the reruns much more. My theory is the only reason the show's still running is because they have high ratings and Fox keeps offering them more and more money to keep it going.

Family Guy is still much more original. Their humor is definitely edgier and at times immature (which is usually pretty hilarious!). It's just a little more original at the moment, but if it keeps going a few more years it will probably "Jump the Shark" like the Simpsons too and become more stale.

I agree with ANCFlyer.

The Simpsons jumped the shark years ago. Now I only watch their Halloween specials and that's it.

Family Guy is just not funny to me anymore. Ever since that episode of Stewie (supposedly!) killing Lois, the show has jumped the shark and they have sealed their fate. Let's face it, Family Guy is going to be the next Simpsons. They're not going to accept defeat after they make an ultra crappy movie to be in theaters worldwide that people will be disappointed with, yet still see it just because it's Family Guy.

Go ahead Family Guy fans. Flame me all you want, you'd agree with me at least five years from now.

The Simpsons has lost it, but it had a great run. Family Guy is the funniest show in the history of television. It's not quite as sharp as it was, but there's still plenty left in the tank.

I like both shows, for different reasons. The Simpsons is classic and I think still works well. The Family Guy, however, is the ultimate gut rip show. It is so laugh out loud funny that I inevitably end up nearly in tears each show. South Park, on the other hand, sucks.

The show was good, if a tad melodramatic. I bought the film a few months ago, and both my wife and I were overwhelmed at how completely unfunny it was. Catch 22 came out at pretty much the same time, and it's so much better...

Though I enjoy both, I prefer The Simpsons. Mostly because Brian is getting obnoxious.

Quoting LHboyatDTW (Reply 9):

I don't think Fox really gave it a fair shot. When it was on the Sunday line up, the time slot it had was most often taken up when the afternoon football game ran long.

A new Futurama movie, Bender's Big Score is out on DVD. Comedy Central will be showing new episodes in 2008 i think. Those new episodes will be culled from the direct to DVD movies, so if you by them, you'll already have the new episodes. At least that is my understanding.
I lift things up and put them down.

Maybe it's difficult to understand the film's humour, but IMO it is funny. The humour in the M*A*S*H film is very dark, so some people may think of it as too serious than funny.

Futrama is a good show, but soon I won't be able to watch Futrama unless Comedy Central starts making episodes of Futrama.

I like Simpsons more because I have watched it for so long and it is part of my childhood. Even if the latest seasons and the movie were not that good it is still better than what is usually on TV.
I never cared so much about family guy since I d´t find the German translation funny but since I have seen some episodes in English it grew to me but I really don´t care too much about Steve and his attempts of killing his mother. This is way too much for me.

Simpson fan here.
The very early shows were incredibly witty and really held a mirror to the face of America. Haven't seen the movie yet nor many of the newer episodes. I can see how many think the show is getting old but what other show can look back on over 15 years of prime time? Look at other beloved TV sitcoms..."Friends" was good for the first 4-6 years by year 10,ehh. I sort felt they should all get a life. Same with "Seinfeld". It was funny for a year or two but then it also got old. I think "Will & Grace" stopped just at the right time.

Anyone see Drawn Together? That show is warped.

Now going back to a real classic like M*A*S*H....it really can't be classifed as a sitcom. It was very liberal for a 70s TV show. However, after Klinger stopped wearing dresses it became waaaay to preachy for my taste.

I also have to vote for South Park as the best prime time cartoon right now. The way everything is taken so far off the edge on the show is great.
Next up for me is American Dad. Alot of people IMO don't give the show a chance, but I find it funny.
Then, Homer is a classic character from The Simpsons and never gets stale.
I have to put Family Guy last. I love the characters Stewie and Death but the humor in the show is more stupid than funny IMO.
