The Official 2008 NFL ProBowl Thread

Tue Dec 18, 2007 9:48 pm

Well, its that time of the year....

For the first time since the end of the 2001 season, the Cleveland Browns have 2 players on the AFC roster:
WR Braylon Edwards and KR Joshua Cribbs. Both players have contributed significantly to the Cleveland Browns this season. They sure as hell deserve to be there.
Also, TE Kellen Winslow, LT Joe Thomas and G Eric Steinbach are alternates.
FB Lawrence Vickers is a 2nd alternate and K Phil Dawson is a 3rd alternate.

Who made it from your team????

GO BROWNS!!

Just Ois Umenyiora (DE) for the NY Giants. Although I think Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck should of made it as backups.

Who is the starting RB for the AFC? I would think Willie Parker would be the starter, but according to the Steelers website, it only listed Harrison and Faneca as the only starters, while Willie Parker leads the AFC in rushing, and he might even have the most rushing yards in the league...

Representing the Bills, as always, will be our best player. Brian Moorman. The punter.

According to FOX sports LaDainian Tomlinson is the starter and Joseph Addai and Willie Parker are the reserves.

No Saints. Both Drew Brees and Marques Colston stick out as snubs.

Good on everyone to add Sean Taylor to the team.

Whoops. Roster's out. Looks like Moorman didn't make the cut. Instead we're sending Jason Peters.

DeMeco Ryans from the Texans starting at Inside Linebacker.

Mario Williams (league-leading in sacks) got snubbed for the DE spot.  sarcastic   banghead

Parker, PIT - 1317
Tomlinson, SD - 1311
Peterson, MIN - 1278
McGahee, BAL - 1197
Westbrook, PHI - 1191

However Tomlinson has more TD's than Parker (14 to 2) and more receiving yards (461 to 164)

Cowboys-11 players... Says enough right there.

I do think Greg Ellis was snubbed. 11.5 sacks in 10 games played (injured prior)....

Vikings did well...7 representatives, with 6 starters. I was pleasantly surprised to see both Kevin and Pat Williams, and Darren Sharper get starting nods, along with Tony Richardson (who has done a great job blocking for the obvious starter, Adrian Peterson).

It doesn't surprise me to see Aaron Kampman get a starting nod...I was really hoping that the Packers would not have matched the offer sheet that the Vikings gave him last season (unfortunately, they did).

Yeah, I saw that later on in the thread, I guess his TDs and receiving yards still make LT the "best rusher..." Eh, I guess I really cannot argue with that.

Quoting CO7e7 (Reply 14):

Apparently not. He's expected to play tomorrow night against the Rams...

Hey, it is not like there is a massive disparity in the yardage, and LT scores more. Fast Willie is great, and well deserving of his spot, but LT is the starter.

I'm not sure why fans care so much about whether their players go to the Pro Bowl or not. As a 49ers fan, I think only Andy Lee the punter (who is having a possibly historic season) is going. But I'd rather my guys NOT play; I don't care about who wins the game, and I certainly wouldn't want my star player getting his knee torn up for nothing.

True, even though his chargers are somewhat mediocre this year, LT is still considered to be the best rusher in the NFL. How many yards did he have last year, over 1800 and 20-some TDs? That actually is quite remarkable. It also goes to show what kind of offensive line the Chargers must have, besides a very strong one... It looks like 3 O-linemen from the Chargers made the team as well, which really shouldn't be any surprise considering LT's yardage and scoring...

All my team has is Alan Faneca. He had a good first half of the season, but he is really slacking now. In one game he let 3 different defenders get past him to put pressure on Big Ben, and the rest of the o-line isn't giving Parker enough running room, probably the reason why he has so few TDs. I guess individual stats should not even matter, unless they start to pull the rest of the team down, which seems to be what is happening anyway this season, which is why I now don't think the Steelers will get very far beyond wildcard weekend...

He definitely got snubbed. What they said here on the radio in Houston is that it was a matter of timing. He got the 3.5 sacks on Thursday which vaulted him to the top of the AFC sack board. However, most teams (including the Texans) had all ready voted on the Pro-Bowl the weekend before. Seems kind of dumb that they do it that early.

I certainly feel lots better about the 2006 draft the way he has been playing (I was hoping for Bush, not Young).

I wonder if the NFC team will start the game with 10 players on the field, missing a safety in memory of Sean Taylor as the Redskins did.

You have nothing to worry about. This isn't the MLB type All-Star Game where it is played in the middle of the season. This game is the very final NFL game of the season so it's all in fun, that's it. Then they have so much time off to rehabilitate after this game anyway. So, it's not that big of a deal.

No, even in "fun" a player can rip up their knee if they get caught in the wrong position, there are 300 lb. bodies flying around, and shit happens. Freak plays happen all the time. Didn't Drew Brees suffer a dislocated left elbow last year? What if that had been his throwing elbow? If LT for instance were to tear an ACL, I guarantee you he wouldn't be back for a lot of the 2008 season. That would be a disaster for the Chargers. I'm just sayin'.  Cool

Yes, and was promptly reinjured in the very game he returned in (the MNF game vs. the Broncos), which put him out for the rest of the year, and most importantly, against GB in the 1997 NFC Championship Game.

Rice is not even entirely human--that's a highly exceptional case for a highly exceptional person.

Well, he didn't exactly re-injure it in the same way he injured it in the first place. He landed with his full weight on his patella on his touchdown catch, which fractured the patella.

I quite well remember how he injured it. I heard him say in an interview that his subsequent injury was probably due in part to the overall weakness of that knee since he hadn't had a chance to rehab fully.

Davenport's having a very nice game in his place, though.
