Is It Really That Cold?

Thu Dec 20, 2007 3:03 pm

Seems to be. I've just broken the ice on my pond for the third time today. Brrrr!

Yet, the fish are popping up, (through the hole created) open mouthed, waiting to be fed. Daft boggers!

No way they're getting my Yorkshire pud :O )
Exactly how long is a drastic measure?

It doesn't seem to be too cold yet in Northern Ireland, although having said that, I have had to crank the heating up a notch or too so perhaps the cold weather is slowly approaching.

-5 most of the morning in Oxford; I'm not sure it reached positive figures! My car had serious ice on it this morning, took 15 minutes to defrost as water simply re-froze!

HA...child's play. We've already had several days in Ottawa where it hasn't got out of the negative double digits (-15C) and it's not even Winter yet (well, not for another day).

-5 this morning and I got to school in a Tshirt...  silly  although its because I refuse to have to carry a large coat around all day for the benefit of a few minutes.

That's nothing, it's been no warmer than -35F (-38C) here for the last several days. In fact right now it's -44F (-42C). -15C sounds pretty nice right now.

It has been below zero (F) in Kenai for a week. We'll manage to get into the plus teens this week.

At work, Glennallen, it's been in the minus 20s(F) for a week, and dropping.

Yup, it's frackin cold!

In Central Florida we have had 3 nights of frost already this year. Normal for the winter is probably 3 to 5 times a year and never untill january. I have lost my Banana trees already and had some damage to my Palms and Citrus. Last winter was very cold for us and it looks like it will be again this winter. I lost two Citrus trees last winter.

Finally getting above freezing in the northern suburbs of Chicago today. Thank goodness I'm going home tomorrow morning where it has finally cooled off in ATL after our usual (not global warming effect) mid-December heat wave into the 70s.

Quoting ZakHH (Reply 3):
Cue the "see-there-is-no-global-warming" comments in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

What cracks me up though is how much global warming gets used for the root cause of stuff.

Lots of hurricanes...must be global warming
No hurricanes...must be global warming
Hot summers...has to be global warming
Cool summers...it's that damn global warming again
No snow...global warming to the rescue
Record snowfalls...global warming to the rescue

I'm not saying it isn't happening but I am saying that it gets overused as the reason behind changes in the weather just a bit much these days.

Do what we always did when living in Florida. Turn the sprinklers on the citrus trees and freeze them at 32 with a cover of ice. We never lost one when we did that year after year.

Right now its +44F - and it seems cold to my warm-blooded body. once you get past the teens, I don't think you can feel a difference. But then again, I haven't been in anything colder than -7

Must have been at least -5 here the past few days.

I love it though, the picturesque setting of a nice bright sun, shining on a frosted field, seeing the robins in the trees, singing along...

Ugh, it's been in the upper 30s and 40s most of the past two weeks. I hate it!

It's -3C and foggy in Yorkshire. I think that's considered a nice Summer's day in these parts, seeing as my neighbours have their windows open. Strange People. My heatings set at 19C and I don't plan to leave the house today apart from the 10 yards to my nice warm car  Smile

Nice and icey where I am in yorkshire, freezing (down to about -8 or 9 at night) and then up to +3 or 4 in the day time. Sliding on black ice isnt funny when there is a wall 2ft either side of the single track lane. Had a lovely moon lit night last night I took some long exposure pics and it looked like day time.

Where's my heat?!?! PHX and LAS are supposed to be burning hot and it seems to be getting colder every year.. I don't know why, that's just how it feels like. And y'all can kiss my ass if ya think this is paradise and just because it's only 46 fricken degrees here and I'm complaining cause it's cold. I'm not attuned for anything below 78 degrees. Watch me regret this cold/heat stuff when it's the middle of J/J/A.. Big grin
