Belgrade Hotel Offers Room With Hitler`s Portrait

Sat Dec 22, 2007 9:05 pm

Seems a bit weird to me but here is the link to the article :::

Belgrade Hotel Offers Room With Hitler's Portrait
A Belgrade hotel has a unique offer: night in a suite containing the portrait of the world's greatest dictator and criminal – Adolf Hitler.

New Belgrade hotel “Mr President”, situated in the very city centre, has installed a portrait of Adolf Hitler in suite number 501, most famous dictator and criminal in history, Blic writes.

Newly-opened hotel is guided by the policy stating that every guest has a right to choose their accommodation in accordance with their preferences and interests. Therefore, Hitler's room was thus furnished, attracting media attention straight away. A German woman is staying there at the moment, who said she disagrees with Hilter's policy, but she chose the room in order to brag she had spent the night with Hitler.

Allegedly, guests are very satisfied wit this choice and can select a certain suite with the portrait of their favourite president, for instance Stalin, Castro, Ceausescu or Tito even. Still, Hitler's suite is most coveted.

- Whatever Hitler was like, he is a part of history and a man who has marked a period. One writer of ours said there are no good or bad things, only the way we look at them – Dusan Zabunovic, “Mr President” hotel owner told Blic.

Of course they are. Who wouldn't want to spend a night in their favourite dictators bedroom? Now if they had a Francisco Franco bedroom.................... sarcastic

Even under the Nazis, most Germans just had the mandatory portrait hanging in their sitting room (together with the copy of "Mein Kampf", which they received when they got married, but most never read, because it was so boring), so that they would not get into trouble if the "Blockwart" was checking their flat (same as hanging a swastika flag out of the window on public celebrations, if you didn't do it, you would become suspect).

I wonder which idiots want to sleep in a room decorated with a picture of their favourite dictator (do they include Robespierre and Napoleon as well?).

I know some conservative (mostly upperclass) Spanish who still praise Franco for saving Spain and the Catholic church from the devilish reds. Only now the mass graves of the victims of the Franco dictatorship are surfacing (the mass graves caused by the communists have been long published).

Gee, this sounds like a great idea! Why don't we start an airline and name the planes after dictators. I'm calling Pol Pot.

Anyway... Who wouldn't want to sleep with Hitler?!?! Or Stalin? This is just great. Must make my way to Belgrade immediately.

:sarcasm off:

I believe those are some remarks about Hitler deemed inappropriate for a.net... I'm not exactly sure...

Quoting Dtwclipper (Reply 10):
Is this it?

Certainly looks like it... I mean... Portraits hanging off walls, a re-creation of Mt. Rushmore... I'm glad FDR, Stalin and Hitler can finally be so close (I'm assuming FDR's portrait is in the hotel somewhere, though I don't know...).  Yeah sure

Which reminds me of the official birthday presents the 3rd Reich gave to our (Field) Marshal, Baron Mannerheim on the occasion of his 75th birthday in 1942. Goebbels had ordered easily the kitchiest fine china vase there ever was in the Reich, Göring the flyboy a miniature model collection of all German military aircraft in brass. (I wonder where that collecton is stored now.) The Führer and Reichskanzler in Person presented a life-size portrait -- of himself, whom else? The presents are listed in the official jubilation book of 1942, but I was puzzled by the fact that there was no picture of the old man Adolf's present anywhere in the book to be found. I read later somewhere that Mannerheim had given orders to his valet to "find a suitable location" (wink wink I suppose) for the portrait. As hindsight is 20/20, I remained sceptical, but when Mannerheim's city apartment went under repairs some years ago, the said Reichskanzler's portrait was found in the bottom of the liftshaft all right!

To me the moral of the story is that tact and discretion is better than going gung-ho.

Well, I'm not sure I could stay there... Well, you can probably use it as a dart board, but you'd have to pay for the improvement.... er, damages, I mean.

I meant "no one cares to seek accomodations there". It's ok to be interested since you live close by.
