Refreshing To Hear "Merry Christmas" So Often

Mon Dec 24, 2007 4:42 am

In the last several days, at work, out shopping, and just running errands, it has been so wonderful hearing so many more people saying "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays" to me, and for me to say it back! There is nothing wrong, per se, with "Happy Holidays!", but it's so nice to hear "Merry Christmas"-and to see it on billboards.

And, today, my daughter was in the Christmas Choir concert, and guess what? They said "Christmas", and "Christ", and "Jesus", and "Virgin Mary"-at a public school concert! No one complained. Everyone had a great time.

I'm honestly not looking to start a scrap here, with all these threads about Christmas and the war on it thereof, but just wanted to say how nice a change this has been.

Merry Christmas to all.

I'm making a conscious effort to stop the "Happy Holidays" greeting this year. Thus far, I haven't had a single person kick me in the groin over it.
This place is cashed, so I'm out. Someone PM me when A.net comes back.

Not yet. But we have until January 7, 2008 before I can definitively say I'm home free.  Big grin

This evening as I was bidding farewell to passengers as they were deplaning, Mostly everyone said Merry Christmas as they deplaned, a few "Happy Holidays" here and there. I said Merry Christmas to this one couple as they walked by, and they said, "what so merry about it?", hrmmm. They looked crabby when they got on and throughout the flight. Maybe it was the combination that they were stuck in the last row on the DC9 and we were 2 hours late. Well sorry, but it's the snow, the winter wonderland.

I agree. It's nice to hear "Merry Christmas" more often.

"Happy Holidays" is nothing more than a cynical politically correct attempt to neutralize Christmas so no one gets offended. Thank God it's in retreat.

Merry Christmas all!

Bleh who cares. People should just say what they are comfortable with. I mean, obviously not many Jews are going to say Christmas...and then you have those that celebrate Kwanzaa - whatever that holiday is.

For me...its Happy Whateverthehellyoubelievein. The whole damn thing is too commercialized as is.

Some passengers can be such a$$holes... Maybe they both had stinging nettles in their underwear?  Wink

Political correctness. It's an American issue; some people (minorities) think that saying Merry Christmas is offensive because it's a Christian concept. Stores, etc, sometimes employ greetings as to not offend those of other religions. However, for me...

It's just a Christian holiday gone commercial.

I say whatever happens to come to mind first. I don't really care if you don't celebrate it; I don't really care if I don't celebrate it.

I don't think I've ever actually met anyone who celebrates Kwanzaa.....the whole basis for that holiday sounds pretty questionable anyway. Not that I really care - celebrate it if you want to.
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

I was pleased to hear recently, during some NBA coverage, the commentators says "Merry Christmas" as often as possible. Seems like there are indeed people who still have common sense and don't give in to all the PC bullshit.

Thankfully here in Ireland ''Merry Christmas'' is the only thing used and long may it last !!! If someone said happy holidays to me Id tell them to get a life and refresh their minds on the nativity .

MERRY CHRISTMAS .......

I'm all for Merry Christmas, but once Christmas has passed I switch to Happy Holidays, because Dec 28thish...thats not New Years territory or Christmas territory, so I split the difference and say Happy Holidays.
